Windsurfing Race Day 47 with Sea Boss Rider at Saint Aubrey yesterday

The weather conditions yesterday were really good. Izi, Ella, Amy and Lucy came over and joined me on our windsurfing courses 1 and 2 with wind from South and 25knots.

the fleet at the briefing

Normally i prepare everything for my races before i logoff for dinner and come back later for the race. I thought i have done the same this time as well.
During the briefing i tell all the following:
“race check: Course loaded in USB, start timer resetted to 00:00:00, minimap open, map open?”
and all follow it… well not me yesterday.
So i started the line for the prestart and wondered why i didn’t hear the start beep and realized i don’t have added my USB HUD. By the time i had it on and the right course activated the others already turned back to the start line with full speed and the best line and i was somewhere out of course and could only crawl to the line.
This was by the way the reason i couldn’t do any pictures of the whole race because they were so far away that i didn’t see them on my screen.

Izi, Amy and Ella started close together followed just some seconds later by Lucy.
During the first lap they i had much time to watch the dots on the mini map while i was trying to catch up with them all. Izi and Ella had a very close duel for the lead and Amy and Lucy the same for third place behind them. Amazing that Izi and Ella did in both laps the same times and were in the end only separated by the start time difference.
Lucy caught up slowly with Amy and could pass her at the last buoy in the second lap.
During the two laps i could catch up more and more with Amy and Lucy and at the very last buoy before the finish line i could pass both on the inside with the last turn and saw Izi and Ella in front of me now finishing. I thought it is a good idea to take at least a finishing picture of the two.

Izi finished 1. and Ella 2.

But during the slow gyazo upload my keyboard was blocked and i couldn’t control my board. I realized i am a bit off course for the line (as you can see already on the picture), but i couldn’t steer back and by the time i got the control back i was already too far away from the finish line and missed it. Turning around and sailing back to cross the line finally gave Lucy and Amy the chance again to pass me and they finished 3. (Lucy) and 4. (Amy).

Congrats to Izi for her win and for two exciting and very fair duels on our high speed course 1.

For the start of the second race i had all checked now twice and they all waited for my check call this time as well.
A good preparation is half of the rent and we say in Germany. So i had nearly a perfect start parallel with Lucy, followed a bit later by Izi, Amy and Ella.
The first two legs to buoy CS and IS are full speed hiking legs and i had the whole time Lucy in my neck. The other 3 followed us in breathing distance as well. The 5 dots on minimap looked nearly as one big dot.
I could stay just the few meters in front of Lucy which i needed to turn first around buoy IS. That gave me the chance of a very narrow and fast turn.
With this nearly perfect turn i could gain some more meters between me and my 4 chasers who still stayed after the turn very close together.
On the following long hiking leg to buoy OE via buoy CN i could hold my speed constantly at 16.5 knots and reached even sometime 17.1 knots. That let me sail away from the others meter and meter. And even after the turn around buoy OE and on the leg to buoy CN i could keep my 4 chasers behind me. They were still very close together. I bet you will see that on Lucy’s videos soon.
The leg to buoy ON is a full downwind leg. Izi and Ella gibed earlier than me and they could pass me just before buoy ON. Amy and Lucy followed us in their duel.
The leg back to buoy OE is an upwind leg. I could pass Izi and Ella again at the first tack. But then the two tacked earlier and took the risky short cut on the airport sim corner with a lot shorter way and i took the safe way out of that airport sim. That gave Izi the chance to pass me again at buoy OE and Ella to catch up very close with me.
I tried my best to catch up with Izi (finished 1.) again on the final leg, but she could save a lead of half of her board length on the finish line. All watched by Ella (finished 2.) in her popcorn position behind us two and Amy (finished 3.) could save her little lead against Lucy (finished 4.) on the finish line as well.

Congrats to Izi for her second win as well and again for awesome duels along the course 2.

  1. My video of 1st race, showing the last buoy when I caught Amy and Bianca caughting both of us in her astonishing recover. A pity that she ended losting the line.

Bi, you deserved that 3 place.

And this mindless girl forgot to turn off the recorder after 2nd race, it keep recording and when cache was full it deleted all the race to record my screen still…

So, sorry but no video of 2nd race.

    • well when shit happens then mostly with full speed… there are these days they tell you “smile it could be worse” you smile and it is getting worse…lol

On all laps the buoy OE always rezzed for me only after seconds. On this last lap it didn’t even rez for me at all. So i tried to go a bit wider to make sure i turn around it right, but i wasn’t sure if i did.

Well i made about all wrong that i could do wrong in the first race and hope that will be enough for the next months…lol

    • Amy,
you offer your Laser One sailors practice times at Bowsprit.
We do the same at Saint Aubrey for B22 and for the SBR. just come and ask when you have time and we will be happy to show you better turns and how to keep the speed up.
