Liev, Laure, Lucy, Nicci, Jack (with crew Dora), Moon, Izi, Diana, Erica, Ella and Lisa came yesterday for our B22 course 2 with wind from South East and 21knots. The rolling restarts made the sim crossings mostly smooth and we saw a really eventful and exciting race with some mistakes and unfortunately some technical issues.

The Start showed a long close line of boats all aiming for the southern race line buoy and all close together: nose to tail.
Poor Izi had already first lag issues before crossing the start line and a very slow reacting boat and it got worse after she crossed the line. Her boat got turned after the next crossing to the south and then ended in circling before she finally crashed. Very sad after starting even with her lag in 5th position and it looked like an exciting and promising race for her.
The flying boats in the little video are the result of my lag. I cant say if the sailors saw it in the same way.
After they all crossed the start line the first upwind to Osprey race line followed and you could see the different skills of the sailors to keep the boat more or less closer to the wind. Lisa could pass Ella and Jack and turned around Osprey race line first. The fleet followed still close together.

On the following downwind to buoy CN Lisa caught some lag and it took her some time get the spin right. Ella and Jack took the chance and passed Lisa by windshadowing her. Jack took parallel the chance to pass Ella as well and turned around buoy CN first followed by Ella, Lisa and Moon. With a better turn in her own special way Lisa passed Moon at bouy CN.

Nicci, Laure and Erica passed Liev on the fast downwind leg to buoy CN.

The next leg to buoy OE was an upwind leg again and you could see again the different lines as a result of the different angles to the wind. Lisa and Ella sailed closer to the wind while Jack drifted more to the north. After the tack to buoy OE Jack tacked in a more northern position and had to sail a longer way to the south to arrive at buoy OE. He crossed Ellas line before her, but Lisa was faster and Jack interpretated the distance to Lisa wrong and decided too late to start to avoid the contact with Lisa. Lisa was still on starboard when Jack ran into her and so he got a 360 and the message to do it as soon as possible.

It followed a long high speed part via buoy CS (with spin) to buoy ON (with code or spin). Jack did his 360 on the leg to buoy ON and got passed by Ella, Moon and Lucy during that.

On the leg back to buoy CN Nicci got turned around and pulled off the boat but she could manage to jump back on it, was only sailing into the wrong direction. It took her a bit to get control back and to steer back on the right course and she fell back to second last position.
The others settled their postions on the fast legs via buoy CN, IN and IS. Jack and Lucy were having their duel even side by side sometimes.

After buoy IS followed another last spin leg to buoy OW and then the long upwind leg to the finish line via buoy CS and with the main direction south east. So with wind from South East it meant some tacks to cross the Degrand Channel and that gives the sailors the option to choose their own timing. I got nearly dizzy turning around the whole time to watch them all around me spreaded out. While you have many options for the tack timing you can choose a wrong one as well and then find the wreck south east of Degrand Island like Lisa did. The wreck has been there for very long and Lisa now remembers it again. She found the wreck in a bad position and got stuck which means Ella could pass her.

On the long upwind Erica managed to pass Laure.

As i said in the beginning we had a pretty eventful race, sad moments and exciting moments and all over a very exciting race.
Congrats to Ella for her first win this year. Here is the result from yesterday:

Shall we schedule regattas on restart days? Hm?
“The flying boats in the little video are the result of my lag. I cant say if the sailors saw it in the same way.”
Obviously not. Far as I know are flying boats clientside – and clientside only.

If LL doesnt do the rolling restarts for our race area i ask for it specially a couple of hours before… So during last months we had nearly every week fresh restarted sims on tuesdays…

Uh ok. So they were done by then. I thought you had scheduled races on a restart day, which often ends in tears. π¦

They restart Main Channel and that is nearly all of our race area on Tuesdays and are mostly finished 1-3 hours before we race. If they forget it one week i will ask them shortly after the support chat opens to restart my list of sims. The tears are mostly disconnects or crashes caused by sim corner hits and well i cant help with that at all. I feel always sad for them, but i cant help with that.
