Second Life Destinations – The Relic

Teleport now: https://secondlife.com/destination/th…

Sponsored by the University of New Mexico, The Relic is a tranquil oasis that provides an opportunity to socialize in a natural environment. Here, you can engage in compelling discussions about a variety of topics with the ultimate goal of cultivating a community of practice.

Resident Monkicat Giha shares the inspiration behind the Relic:

“The Relic was envisioned by a cohort of 4 academics in the fields of Finance, Economics, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage, and Craft to be a space to explore the digital world together, to share thoughts, ideas, skills, and tools to navigate this new space.

It was built by Ness Nova and EchoRayne Ayashi. The inspiration for the landscape was the Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park in The Netherlands. This unique landscape of desert sand and Pine Trees was created by the retreating ocean waters around 10,000 years ago and exposed during the middle ages as a result of deforestation and excessive peat extraction.

The purpose of the Relic is to build a community of practice, a place where academics, creatives, and the curious can come together, share, and learn from each other, across backgrounds and disciplines, regardless of experience or skill level.

The region itself reflects this through the absence of traditional institutional buildings, classrooms etc. The spaces here are open, airy, and comfortable to produce a feeling of relaxation. It also acts as a reminder for us to break out of traditional spaces, and be open to thinking, quite literally, out of the box. And not to forget, play! The region is sponsored by the University of New Mexico, the Daniels fund, Anderson School of Management, and University College.”
