A resident of Scarborough, on the Cape Peninsula, discovered the squid while out walking his dog on Tuesday morning.

Interested members of the community flocked to get a glimpse of the deep sea creature. “It’s quite unusual to find the squid on the surface as it is a deep sea animal”, Dr. Callan Cohan, a biologist at UCT’s FitzPatrick Institute, told News24.
