O@tParamount+: Halo

Typical Husband. First he forces me to download Halo, then he decides to stay the whole day in bed. So off I went and watched the first two episodes alone:

Aliens threaten human existence in an epic 26th-century showdown. TV series based on the video game ‘Halo’.

Produced by Steven Spielberg, starring roundeye Natascha McElhone and my fave grumpy guy Burn Gorman, this turned out better than expected. Rest of the cast – including the guy who plays Master Chief – consists of nobodies. But quite ok-ish nobodies.

And since this series is produced by Spielberg all the CGI effects are decent as well. Nothing to be ashamed of. But also nothing that stands out. Can’t say much about the plot since neither hubby nor me have ever played Halo. I hear the backstory is great; guess that’s why they decided to make an expensive television series from it.

Alas, although I was decently entertained, the first two episodes failed to grab me by my non-existent balls. It was all a bit too tame for my taste. Although the way the aliens decimated Kwan Ha’s teenager gang was kinda gory. Those aliens are not to be fukked with. But neither are Master Chief and his platoon of genetically modified space marines. They mean business! And their business is Kill! Kill! Kill! And don’t ask questions.

What I got from the plot til now is that the human military is kinda ruthless, pretty fascist and likes to kill innocent civilians and their own marines as well. Like kinda future Ukrainians or shit.

Since we’re only 2 episodes in the series it’s much to early for a conclusion. We don’t know what the future holds for Master Chief and Kwan Ha and I’ll give you my expert judgement once we’re through with the series.

Any of you, dear readers, played the game or have watched the show as well? What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments.

    • They need a better director and/or better screenplays. The storytelling is a bit uneven, the pace is off. Still much better than most of what we get nowadays.
