Race Day 8 with Bandit 22LTE at Saint Aubrey in 2022

After we had during the last weeks lots of unsits during our races i checked where most of them happened and checked our race area again. We had around Degrand island and east of our start line some sims that were still on RC Channel while the rest of our race area is all on Main Channel. Most unsit problems happened when someone changed during a sim crossing from one Channel to the other. So i submitted a ticket to let them change the few sims to Main Channel as well. I went into support chat as well and asked them to read the ticket and ask me if there is something they dont understand. 15min later all sims were changed to Main Channel. I wont say that this will make our races now totally safe, but i think it will help us a little bit.
Yesterday Ella, Jack (with crew Dora), Izi, Lisa, Rugger, Spin, Esme, Lucy, Erica, Nicci, Erin, Liev (with crew Elleven) and Moon came for our B22 course 2 and wind from North West and 22knots. Rugger complainted again a lot of lag and crashed in the end again. Jack got unseated once and Spin disconnected once, but both got back on their boats and finished the race. I think for the others it was pretty smooth, because the sailors didnt mention serious issues and i had asked LL to restart our sims 4 hours before our race.

The start of the race was awesome to watch yesterday. 12 of the 13 boats started within 14sec and only Spin in his first race with us was a bit late at the start. Yesterday Lisa and Lucy won the start and used their good northern start position without getting wind shadowed to sail a bit away of the fleet. The others followed all very closed and please overlook that i cant really remember who passed who on the first leg at the average speed of 17knots. They were all so close together that i nearly couldnt pass them before Osprey race line.

The Start
Lisa and Lucy first at Osprey race line
followed by the fleet of chasers

When the fleet arrived at Osprey race line the first boats started to fly on my screen. The next leg is a long upwind leg and some sailors sail a bit more north after t Opsprey race line and save a bit of the speed from the leg before and some tack earlier to the west. That carry a risk of accidents when someone tacks too early in front of another one. So i try to watch this point carefully. But with lots of flying boats on my screen i couldnt really say what happened.

But i can tell you something happened i have never seen before in all the years i already organise races or race myself. I want to highlight it here and would like to call Lucy and Moon my heroes of yesterday substitutionary for all the fair racers we have in our races every week.
Lucy and Moon did both a 360Β° circle without being ordered to, because they thought they have fouled the other one and they were even discussing in in our race conference shortly why they thought they did the foul. I didnt see it and i hope we will see it later in Lucy’s video.

And back to the race action. Lisa sailed more and more away from Izi, Ella and Jack. Thos 4 found their place in front of the fleet and defended their postions successfully until the finish line. Behind them i watched lots of exciting duels with a couple of position changes.

at buoy CN: 8. Lucy, 9. Erica, 10. Rugger
at buoy CN: 11. Moon, 12. Erin, 13. Spin

While i watched the fleet sailing around buoy CN the first sailors sailed already around buoy OE already after the fast downwind leg and on the following upwind leg to buoy CS the first 5 (Lisa, Izi, Ella, Jack and Esme) stabilized their positions. But Nicci could manage to sail away from Liev, Rugger to pass Erica and catch up with Lucy and Erin to pass Moon again.

While i was watching our fleet sailing around buoy CS and turning North East for buoy ON and then back South East for bouy CN i noticed some of the last cruisers from Topless cruise aiming for Degrand island. So i warned our racers that they might meet some of the late cruisers and if they are in doubt just let them go and just dodge them to avoid a contact. Parallel i flew to the cruisers and warned them that we have a race going on here. And this week we didnt have serious accidents between the racers and the cruisers. Thats why i missed most of the exciting upwind and downwind duels. Nicci and Liev were passed by Rugger, Lucy, Erica and Moon and sailed for quite a while side by side until Nicci managed to leave Liev behind. Jack had his unsit, lost a bit to Ella, but caught up again. Rugger, Moon and Erica could pass Lucy and Moon additional Erica. So we had behind Esme a totally different order at buoy OW.

at buoy OW: 1. Lisa
at buoy OW: 2. Izi

at buoy OW: 5. Esme (already out of the picture), 6. Rugger, 7. Moon, 8. Erica, 9. Lucy
at buoy OW: 10. Nicci, 11. Erin, 12. Liev

On the long downwind leg to the finish line via buoy CS we lost Rugger unfortunately.

our after race party at our Tiki Bar

The chats during our after race party were long and all were pretty excited and happy about the race. So my summary is quite short today. Congrats to Lisa for her win and all others for an entertaining, exciting and awesomly fair race. I love this group.
