Windsurfing Race Day 7 with Sea Boss Rider at Saint Aubrey in 2022

Yesterday Izi, Lucy, Ella, Amy and Sanja joined me in our races and later then Ester joined us for the second race as well on our SBR courses 4 and 3 with wind from North East and 25 knots.

These days we have one sailor at Saint Aubrey with just only bad luck. Izi had again in both races a lot of slow crossings with lot of loosing of control and crashed in both races. She was both times leading or at least second of the race and fell back both times to the end of the fleet.
We all know these things can happen sometimes to all but if you get that in a row it can be very frustrating.
Same happened to Amy in second race. She crashed again like some times already in last weeks at the last buoy.
In second race after i had finally the lead i was very carfully with the sim corners and at on a special corner i really was in a safe distance to it. But SL didnt care and pulled me off my board
Some people in sl say the conditions got better over the last months and a lot still say it is becoming worse.
Well i think the changes LL have done in the server software updates might make the crossings more sensible and so the different combinations of personal internet connection, quality and age of PC and some personal viewer settings caused lots of different results. We learned a lot about settings in the last 2 years during the changes of SL, but they dont work for all in the same way. I know it is not my fault when other sailors crash in races, but because i know how it feels when i crash in my races i always feel so sad for them and it gives us all a kind of bitterness at the end of the races. I hope we will return to the undisturbed excitement and fun of our races again VERY soon.

the fleet in first race from the left: Izi, Lucy, Ella, Amy, me, Sanja

I cant say much about the whole race yesterday, because i sailed mostly with 2 others in the front and those triels were really exciting and needed all my concentration. So i hope Lucy’s videos will show more of the race actions behind me.

Izi, Sanja and me started in first race nearly parallel, followed close by Ella. Only Amy and Lucy started a bit later.

from left short after the start of first race: Izi, me and Sanja

On the way to buoy IS via buoy CS Izi, Sanja and me got even closer together and Ella caught up with us. Then we got the messages from Izi that she looses control and had to relog. She found her board again but was at the end of the fleet after continuing her race. So sad. From now on there were only Sanja, Ella and me in the triel for the lead. I followed them both on the upwind leg to buoy CN and could catch up with them on the following downwind leg to buoy CS. There i could pass the two and turned later around buoy IS first after the high speed leg. My line to the finish was the worst then. Sanja and Ella caught up meter by meter and both passed me before the finish line.
The start and race times say that Amy and Lucy must have had a nice and exciting duel during the whole race, because Amy finished just 2 seconds before Lucy.

The finish (and sorry this time without pictures):
1. Sanja, 2. Ella, me, 3. Amy, 4. Lucy, 5. Izi

the fleet in second race from the left: Ester and Ella, Izi, Amy, me, Lucy, and Sanja

The start of the second race saw Izi, Sanja, Ella and me crossing the line nearly parallel within 2 seconds. And we were aiming for the first buoy nearly in the same positions like on the picture from first race short after the start, only a lot closer together. I had Izi on my left, Sanja on my right and Ella in my neck and i felt safer than the american president in the middle of his secret service guys.
Ester, Lucy and Amy followed us a little later at the start.
The closer we got to the first buoy CN the safer i felt between the 3 girls around me. Sailing around buoy CN Izi had just a couple of inches left to the buoy, i had about the same room to Izi because there was Sanja already on my right side and giving me just a couple of inches and all at 16 knots. Well and in my neck was still Ella. Next time i should get more vaseline on my board to get through all them safer.
Ella passed Izi, Sanja and me on the downwind leg and turned around buoy CS first. She kept her lead until buoy IS via buoy IN. Her chasers were first Izi, then me and then Sanja.
After buoy IS Izi got logged off, came back to her board more than 2min later and fell back to the end of the fleet again.
After buoy OW i could pass Ella with a different line to buoy CN and we two sailed a bit away from Sanja. Then SL aimed me for pulling off someone of the board and was successfull. Ella and Sanja passed me while i tried to get back on my board. I knew Ella was too far ahead to catch her again and i just concentrated on Sanja.
On the long upwind leg to buoy ON and then to the finish line Ella defended her lead without mistakes and technical issues. I could slowly catch up with Sanja and in the end she was so kind to run into buoy ON and let me pass her.
Amy crashed unfortunately at the last buoy ON.

The Finish of second race: 1. Ellla, me (without a picture)

The Finish of second race: 2. Sanja, 3. Lucy, 4. Ester
The finish of second race: 5. Izi

Congrats to Sanja and Ella for their wins, a warm hug for Izi and Amy for their bad luck yesterday and a big thank to all the ones who kept me Oldie on my toes yesterday and gave my heart a good training.

  2. Super videos again Lucy.. thanks!

In the first race, it was on the a normal sim crossing after IS, on the way back east to CN, that SL played its trick on me and I lost the board controls before my viewer froze. After I logged back in, I eventually found my board, still sailing, a long way SE of CN, so I had to turn back to CN to round it properly before resuming the course.

In the second race it was my own fault – I went a bit too close to a corner for the speed we were doing and got thrown off my board. Normally you can tp right back onto it and carry on without slowing down much, but SL would not let me do that this time, so I had to go looking for it. I found it moored back at the crossing point, and it was a bit broken, but I managed to finish the race okay.

To add insult to injury, SL then disconnected me in my Tiki Taxi RIB as I crossed from the marina into Conway to pick you girls up off the line. Sorry, but that was the final straw for me last night. I would not have been good company!

    • Izi,
      1. i asked today LL to move the last 4 sims in our area to Main channel as well. So the weird unsits on some sims should stop now because all our race sims are now on the same channel and have the same server software.
      2. I was in second race actually in safe distance to a sim corner but sl decided still pulled me off and i couldnt tp back on it as well… so you are not alone with that problem
      3. Our marina sim is on RC Channel. Your crashes there let me think of checking again our race area sims and asking LL to change our other open water race sims. But they couldnt move the marina sim to Main channel because that is private and i have to talk to the owners first. Then they have to request it to Linden. So maybe the crossing to Conwy might stay risky.

      hugs Izi

  3. By the way, my Group tag (‘Concussed’) was because when I arrived for pre-race practice I drove my RIB right under the marina pontoon and got my head stuck. πŸ™‚
