Sanja, Ella, Izi and Lucy joined me yesterday on our windsurfing courses 1 and 2 with wind from the North and 25 knots. The races showed best sunshine without clouds (lag), strong winds (bad crossings) or local rainshowers (disconnects) and 5 Speed Queens on their perfect waxed boards.

We did yesterday our oldest courses after quite a while again. Sanja and Izi started in first race with full speed parallel first, Ella and i followed them a little behind and Lucy only 2 or 3 blinks after us.

The first leg to buoy CN is a fast upwind leg and all sailors try to find the best position for the first 150° turn. We all arrived there very close together, but all stayed on our radius and no one cutted in. In this case it was the bad luck of Sanja to be on the outside and some the others could catch up with her or pass her on the inside. The fleet started then the second leg to buoy OE and it looked like 5 jets in formation cutting white lines into the blue water at 16-17 knots. At buoy OE we all came close together again and again all kept their lines and did the next 150° turns to aim the finish of the first lap.
Finish of first Lap: Izi, Ella, me, Sanja and Lucy

On the first leg of the second lap Ella and i caught up with Izi and caught her at buoy CN. This time Izi did a slower turn and Ella and i could pass her there followed by Sanja and Lucy.
Again 5 jets cutted white long lines into the blue water and at buoy OE Ella, Izi and i turned parallel around the buoy and accelerated parallel for the finish line followed by Sanja and Lucy.

The start of the second race was even a little closer than of the first race, but saw Sanja and Izi again in the lead and this time followed by Lucy, Ella and me.

After buoy IS followed the very long full speed leg to buoy OE, a 180° turn and the next full speed leg to buoy CN. Ella could catch up with Izi and i could catch up with Lucy and we all were at the start of the upwind leg to buoy ON nearly all together in a chat circle. Sanja defended her lead bravely until buoy ON. I could pass Ella and Izi with a little better tack and started to chase Sanja. Lucy followed us close with her hopefully running video cam.

After buoy ON starts the downwind leg with two gibes passing the dangerous sim corner at the airport. You can cut that corner on the left risky and faster side or on the safer and slower right side. Sanja missed the right timing for the second gibe and Izi waited for Sanja to gibe. That meant both gibed a bit to late. I could pass with a better timing Sanja and Ella passed Sanja and Izi there with the risky cut of that sim corner.
The last turn around buoy OE and the last leg to the finish line didnt bring any more position changes and the fleet finished like pearls on a string one after another.
Congrats to Ella for winning both races yesterday and for really exciting and close races at full speed.

Two awesome videos again Lucy with nice music… showing the fun on the water we had yesterday

Super videos Lucy.. thanks!
We are all so close now that one small mistake, like mine at CN in the first race, can turn a leading position into a trailing one!
The music reminded me of an old (90s I think) album called Innovators, by Sam Cardon and Kurt Bestor. One track is called ‘Man Among Men’, about the Brazilian slave freedom fighter known as Pedro Preto (Black Pete). You might know it, but if not it’s worth a listen I think…

The first 1:30 is a brief history, or skip to 1:20 for the music.

Many thanks Izi. I didn’t know this music. Really great 😉
And it is worth to listen the history before.

Brazilian music you can’t dance to? 😮

Berimbaus are more used in Capoeira games so one can say it’s a kind of dance 😀
