Lisa, Ella, Izi, Liev, Jack (with crew Dora), Erica, Rugger (with crew Rosa), Nicci, Laure, Erin, Diana, Lucy, Flapio and Moon came yesterday for our B22 course 2 and wind from North East and 21 knots. The conditions were actually quite smooth after the rolling restarts. Only Nicci got disconnected and sent home naked, Flapio disappeared without a word and Liev lost his boat sometime in the beginning
Sorry i got distracted right in the moment of the start by an IM with an important question from a sailor and missed its beginning. So you can only see how fair and disciplined the start of 14 boats went. Well done everyone!
The start yesterday wasnt as close as we had it in the past already. With 14 boats the lag can can cause boats out of control and then it could be a mess. And so it was best for all that the sailors started a little bit more carefully.
Jack, Izi and Nicci started in the first wave, Liev, Erica, Lisa, Laure, Erin, and Ella in the second wave and Flapio, Moon and Lucy in the third wave. Diana followed in her first race with us at the end a bit later.
Jack and Izi took the advantage out of their starts and began their long distance duel for the lead right after the start. Lisa caught up slowly with the two. The rest of the fleet got slowly sorted on the first leg.
On the following downwind leg Lisa caught up with Izi and both were chasing Jack. We lost Liev and Flapio during this leg unfortunately.
The sailors kept their positions on the upwind leg to buoy OE.
On the following downwind leg to buoy CN Izi could pass Jack. Lisa got pulled off the boat and needed quite a bit time to get back on it again. In that time Ella, Erin, Moon, and Lucy passed her and she started her comeback. Nicci didnt have such a luck, got disconnected and logged in back home naked only with her cap on her head and some joked after the race it could have been worse and she could have been logged in on Time Square.
The leg between buoy CN and ON is a quite long upwind leg with 2-3 tacks and we saw again the different strategies of earlier or later tacks.
Izi defended her lead against Jack successfully.
Ella and Moon passed Erin
and Lisa chased Lucy.
The long speed part with either spin or code fore sail from buoy ON via buoy CN, IN, IS, OW to buoy CS had a couple of great and exciting duels and some bad luck with position changes as well. It could be a race story itself.
Izi hit buoy IS and needed to do nearly a full slow 360 to get back on the track. In this time Jack and Ella could pass her.
Lucy, Lisa and Erin passed Moon and Erica and Laure passed Rugger.
After buoy OW Lisa and Lucy passed Erin. Moon did the same a bit later with Erin.
The duels and position changes were a lot more exciting to watch than i can describe them here.
Congrats to Jack for his first win. Congrats to all for disciplined and fair sailing and for exciting duels along the whole course. I smiled big when i saw the number of boats at the start and i was a bit concerned about the lag as well. But fortunately it wasnt that bad and we saw a quite smooth start and race.
