Race Day 3 with Bandit 22LTE at Saint Aubrey in 2022

While LL restarted the Main Channel our race area was restarted completed as well and we had really smooth conditions. Here and there personal lag but no crash.
Rugger (with crew Rosa), Lisa, Lucy, Jack, Izi, Nicci, Moon, Ella, Erica and Liev came for our B22 course 1 with wind from South West and 21knots.

The fleet from left: Rugger (with crew Rosa), Lisa, Lucy, Jack, Izi, Nicci, Moon, Ella, Erica and Liev

9 of the 10 boats started within 14 seconds, with Jack first again and Erica a lot later at the end and the rest of the fleet pretty close together.
With my slow internet i saw quite some boats flying or under the water like submarins. So the start video doesnt show the great look of the start. But i watched the fleet on the first leg and i can imagine how cool the start must have looked.

The Start

Jack and Izi took the advantage out of their great starts and took the lead. Lisa caught up slowly more and more. So the 3 reached buoy CS first while the rest of the fleet led by Ella followed them.

at buoy CS: 1. Jack, 2. Izi, 3. Lisa
at buoy CS: 4. Ella, 5. Rugger, 6. Lucy, 7. Nicci, 8. Liev, 9. Moon, 10. Erica (not on the picture)

Lisa lost at her turn around buoy CS the control of her boat for some seconds and after she had it back she needed to sail more North to avoid a sim corner. Jack and Izi in front used that to sail away from her and Ella could pass Lisa during that shortly.
In an exciting spin duel with using the windshadow Izi could pass Jack and arrived first at buoy OE followed by Jack.
Lisa used her more northern route with much more speed to pass Ella again and arrived third at buoy OE.

at buoy OE: 1. Izi, 2. Jack
at buoy OE: 3. Lisa, 4. Ella

On the downwind leg to buoy OE Lucy passed Rugger and sailed a bit away from him. Liev caught up with Rugger and both turned around buoy OE parallel. Same did Moon with Nicci and both sailed around buoy OE parallel as well. Erica followed then in popcorn position.

at buoy OE: 5. Lucy, 6. Liev, 7. Rugger, 8. Moon, 9. Nicci
at buoy OE: 10. Erica

On the following upwind leg to buoy CN Lisa started to catch up with Jack meter by meter and passed him. Having Izi in sight she started to chase her as well and at buoy CN she was already in Izi’s neck.

at buoy CN: 1. Izi, 2. Lisa, 3. Jack, 4. Ella

Liev could sail a bit away from Rugger and Moon from Nicci and the 4 following Lucy arrived nicely in a line one after another at buoy CN.

at buoy CN: 5. Lucy, 6. Liev, 7. Rugger, 8. Moon, 9. Nicci

On the following downwind leg to buoy ON Izi and Lisa had an exciting spin duel and Lisa could pass Izi there. From that moment she could sail her course and no one could pass her anymore again. Only Izi stayed in popcorn position to Lisa and waited for Lisa making a mistake to catch her again. But Lisa didnt do one… all the way into the finish and Izi could only follow her.
Rugger could pass Liev on the downwind leg to buoy ON and started to chase Lucy. Moon chased Liev as well and passed him short after buoy ON.
Erica caught up with Nicci and passed her on the upwind leg to Degrand Island. But she got a bit help by SL. Nicci was pulled off the boat and could fortunately tp back on it. She just lost the time which Erica used to catch up and pass her.
Ella caught up with Jack meter by meter on the downwind leg to buoy ON and then passed Jack on the following upwind leg to Degrand Island.

at Degrand island: 1. Lisa
at Degrand island: 2. Izi, 3. Ella, 4. Jack
at Degrand island: 5. Lucy, 6. Rugger
at Degrand island: 7. Moon, 8. Liev
at Degrand island: 9. Erica, 10. Nicci

After Degrand Island Rugger caught up more and more with Lucy and somewhere on the way to buoy CN he could pass her. Moon got a lot closer to Lucy, but Lucy could defend her lead against Moon until the finish line.
The leg between buoy CN and CS is an upwind leg with 2 tacks. Here you could see the different timings of the tacks nicely. Some did a 180Β° turn right at CN to the west and others did a 90Β° turn to the South to take some of the downwind leg speed with them into the upwind leg and made then the tack to the west after they reached the normal upwind speed again.
You can see the differnt lines to buoy CS on the next pictures.

at buoy CS: 1. Lisa, 2. Izi, 3.Ella
at buoy CS: 4. Jack, 5. Rugger, 6. Lucy, 7. Moon
The Finish: 1. Lisa and 2. Izi
The Finish: 3. Ella and 4. Jack
The Finish: 5. Rugger (too fast for my picture), 6. Lucy
The Finish: 7. Moon
The Finish: 8. Liev
The Finish: 9. Erica
The Finish: 10. Nicci

After the race we nearly all met at the Tiki Bar to celebrate Ezio’s 15th Rezday and to have a some beers on him.

The after race party and Ezio’s Rezday party at our Tiki Bar

Congrats to Lisa for exciting duels on her way to the lead and win of the race and to all others who sailed awesome and very fair in their different duels along the course. It was an exciting pleasure again for me to watch and host this race.

Standing overall St AR 2022 B22LTE Championship (after 3 races):
Sailor-points (number of races)

Stay all safe and healthy and hope to see you all back next week on the same course and wind from North West and 21knots.

Hugs and kisses

  1. On the way to CN buoy I was confused why I was so slow, while Ruggero and Moon were catching me fast, until I realised that my Spin was lowered. I raised it in time to prevent being caught by Moon.
