Windsurfing Race Day 49 with Sea Boss Rider at Saint Aubrey yesterday

Yesterday was our last Windsurfing Race Day in 2021 at Saint Aubrey and if i wouldn’t have been one week on hospital holidays we would have made 100 Windsurfing Races. Not bad for our first year at Saint Aubrey.
Sanja, Ella, Amy and Ester joined me yesterday on our reversed courses 4 and 3 with wind from South West and 25knots.

from left: Ella, Amy, our Shark Ester, me and Sanja at the briefing

The starts for our course 4 are different to our other starts and thats why we sometimes have very late starts like last night. Sanja did it about as good as every week and that gave her a safe lead right from the start, which she defended successfully into the finish.

this was about the distance to Sanja we had the whole race

We others tried our best, but we couldn’t catch her again.
Behind her Ella and i and Amy and Ester had exciting duels. At the first buoy IS i could turn a little before Ella and defended this little lead until the last buoy CS.

Ella was most of the time in my neck like this

I chose the direct line to the northern end of finish line, but needed the maximum of AWA i for hiking and i hoped the line more to the South Ella chose was longer and i could finish still in front of her. But well i learned yesterday that her line was a lot faster and she lost a lot less with her just a bit more way than i hoped. So she passed me in the middle of the final leg and finished 3sec earlier than me. Well done Ella, but beware i will try to remember that for the next time.

our Shark Ester finished 3.
Amy finished 4.

Congrats to Sanja for her win of Race 1.

The Start Timing for course 4 is easier and so we all started close together this time.
After the start line we just need to gibe quite to the first buoy and we all managed to reach pretty close together buoy ON and buoy CN.

after the first buoy ON before the first upwind tack: 1. Ella, 2. Sanja, 3. Amy, me 4. our Shark Ester (not on this pic)
after the first upwind tack: 1. Ella, 2. Sanja, 3. Amy, me 4. our Shark Ester

On this upwind leg i caught up with Sanja meter by meter and a little bit before the tack to buoy CN i could pass her, but she stroke back with a better tack. So Ella and Sanja reached buoy CN before me.
The next leg to buoy OW can’t be hiked the whole time with this wind. That means you need to find the best compromise with some hiking at full speed and some normal surfing at lower speed.
We 3 did that differently and so we passed each others several times and we crossed our courses several times as well. In the end at buoy OW i was the most lucky one and reached it first chased by Sanja and Ella.
The rest of the race story is told quickly:
Sanja chased me and tried to catch me and Ella tried the same with Sanja. In the end i could keep Sanja behind me and Sanja could keep Ella behind her. But believe me we could feel their breathe all the time in our necks and it was a very exciting and close chase.
In our back our Shark Ester was trying to get closer to Amy’s butt to get a nice bite of it, but Amy kept her butt and defended her safe lead all the way to the finish line.

Amy finished 3. and the Shark Ester 4.

Congrats to Sanja for her win of Race 2 as well.

The second race was a great finish of our race season 2021 at Saint Aubrey with another really exciting race. Thank You all again for joining me the whole year and make this Windsurfing Race a great weekly event as well.

Now we will have a season break for 2 weeks and will be back with the first race with Sea Boss Rider on January, 6th, 2022 on our new SBR course 5 with wind from North East and 21knots. You should practice a bit on this new course during the free time with this wind and with winds from SE, SW and NW. This course is long enough to have only one race per race day and it is quite different to our other courses.

our new SBR course 5

Stay all safe and healthy and hope to see you all back again next year.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2022

  1. Merry Xmas and a happy new year to all the surfies!
As mentioned at Bianca’s last sail race, you’re all very welcome to read the non-watersporty parts of the blog, too. You know we got many stories about general SL shit, GNU/Linux and nonsense.
