Race Day 46 with Bandit 22LTE at Saint Aubrey

Yesterday was our last official B22LTE race for our Saint Abrey Championship 2021 and Aymalie, Ella, Amy, Lucy, Erica, Nicci, Lilita, Rugger and Jack (with crew Dora) came for our reversed course 2 with wind from North West and 21knots.
The rolling restarts earlier gave us mostly good conditions. Lilita crashed sometimes in the race, Nicci got pulled off the boat, sent to the Lighthouse and fell back to the end of the fleet and Rugger was once turned around by more than 90Β° during a crossing and lost his second place.

the fleet at the briefing

Amy arrived a little early at the start line and had to luff to avoid to be over early. She was successful with that and started perfectly at 00:00, but Aymalie started just 1sec behind her with full speed and used her more speed to pass Amy on the next 100m. Nicci followed both just a bit. Behind the first 3 Ella, Lucy, Erica and Jack followed. Erica chose the south line which let her look she is as fast as the others but she had to sail a longer way and fell slowly back. Rugger followed the fleet and Lilita in her first race started far behind all.

The Start
the fleet passing the first buoy CS

Because of the private sims around the open water and the mainly north west direction of the “Degrand Channel” forced the sailors to tack several times and they did all their own way. That let them meet several times on the way and they crossed their ways several time. But all happened fair and without any accidents.

one snapshot of the different tacks and lines to buoy OW (Aymalie, Lucy, Amy and Rugger)

Aymalie kept her lead from the first leg and turned around buoy OW first.

the end of the long upwind at buoy OW (1. Aymalie, 2. Amy, 3. Lucy, 4. Rugger, 5. Ella, 6. Jack)

The leg to buoy IN is a fully downwind leg around the southern side of Degrand Island. Ella and Rugger found on that a faster line than Lucy and passed her.

at buoy IN: 1. Aymalie, 2. Amy, 3. Rugger, 4. Ella, 5. Lucy, 6. Jack

The leg after buoy IN to buoy CN around the private sims is another downwind leg with different options of gibing. Jack on portack crossed Lucy on starboard tack and forced her to gibe to avoid a contact. For that he got a penalty which he did later.

From buoy CN to buoy CS via buoy ON is mainly sailed with code and as i explained already in last blogs some try to use the spin as well. On those legs Rugger could pass Amy and Ella could catch up close with Amy. Amy and Ella started now an exciting duel all the way to the finish.

Aymalie reached buoy ON first and was even too fast for my rezzing speed
at buoy ON: 2. Rugger, 3. Amy, 4. Ella

Jack did his penalty later and that is the reason why he could defend his lead against Lucy.

at buoy ON: 5. Jack, 6. Lucy

followed by Rugger, Amy Ella, Jack

After buoy CS Rugger lost his control and the boat was sent on a south course by SL and could turn only a lot later to the east. But with that bad luck he fell back after Jack.

and Lucy

On the downwind leg from buoy CS to buoy OE Lucy caught up very much with Jack.

at buoy OE Amy still in front of Ella and Lucy already in the neck of Jack

Jack did his penalty finally after buoy OE and Lucy passed him there. A little after that Jack lost his crew Dora during a crossing and had to moor to reset his cam. Rugger could pass him there again.

Aymalie still safely in the lead at buoy CN

On the upwind leg to buoy CN Ella found the faster line and passed Amy.

at buoy CN: 2. Ella, 3. Amy, 4. Lucy
at buoy CN: 5. Rugger, 6. Jack
at buoy CN: 7. Erica
The Finish: 1. Aymalie
The Finish: 2. Ella, 3. Amy, 4. Lucy
The Finish: 5. Rugger
The Finish: 6. Jack
The Finish: 7. Erica
The Finish: 8. Nicci

Congrats to Aymalie for her win of the race and sorry for some bad luck that hit Nicci and Rugger during the race.
