Windsurfing Race Day 41 with Sea Boss Rider at Saint Aubrey yesterday

After one of the worst days in SL on Wednesday with disconnects sometimes every 10minutes or on every crossing, extreme lag everywhere and just disappearing sims, which appeared after a relog a bit later again it started yesterday a little better. One hour before the start some of us got several disconnects again and we were already afraid it could be a crashy race. But only Kaeda had one of these in first race.
Ella, Lucy, Izi, Amy, Sanja, Ester, Kaeda and Viv (first race) joined me yesterday on our reversed courses 4 and 3 with wind from North East and 25knots.

Our new line was caught by very good starters and the still existing SL lag and didnt register any one of us. Thats why you wont find start times for the first race.
Sanja started best followed by the group of close hunters: Izi, Lucy, Amy, Viv and me. Ella, Ester and Kaeda started later.

Sanja defended her lead from the start on the first leg to buoy IS and Ella caught up with the group of hunters. Behind them Kaeda and Ester who had issues with lag.

The second leg between buoy IS and CS is a tricky one. You can surf the direct line classical or you hike a percentage of it at the beginning and do the rest classical, but then with a slower speed. Sanja, Izi, Ella and Amy did the more risky line and Viv, Lucy and i the more classical line. Kaeda and Ester still on their way to buoy IS.

At buoy CS all come together again and then you see whose line was the fastest. Izi passed me to there and was now the hardest chaser of Sanja. Viv caught up with Ella and Lucy with Amy. Behind the fleet Ester seemed to loose her lag and found her speed back. She passed Kaeda who started to get really technical issues.

The next leg to buoy IS is an high speed leg and is done 100% in hiking mode. Here it is very important to steer and adjust your sail very sensitive to keep your speed at the maximum or you might loose up to 1.5knots. Lucy must have made a mistake at the turn around buoy CN and got passed by Ester. The others did the high speed part all quite similar and were keeping their positions.

The already earlier explained leg between buoy IS and CS followed again and we saw again some different lines. Izi could catch up more with Sanja and Viv with me

On the final leg all could defend their lead to their closest chaser. The differences between the racers on this quite new course 4-REV become smaller and smaller and i bet in a bit we will see several photo finishes in the near future.

the finish: 1. Sanja, 2. Izi, me, 3. Viv, 4. Ella, 5. Amy, 6. Ester, 7. Lucy (video by Noe)

Congrats to Sanja for her win of the first race.

Viv left us after the first race to host her cat race at NYC.

The start direction of the second race was now to the east and on the course 3-REV you need to tack quite quick after the start line.
Amy did this best followed shortly by Lucy, Izi, Sanja, Ella, Ester and me. Kaeda started a bit too far at the south and hugged our line guard Bob.

the start of second race (video by Noe)

After the upwind leg to buoy ON we have the downwind leg to buoy CN. There you have two options again. Sail first to the west or to the South. Amy and i took the South line and the others the West line. But at buoy CN we all come together again and we will see then who did best on the downwind.

Izi did the downwind part best and took the lead. Ella and Lucy caught up with Amy and all 4 started on the long high speed leg to buoy OW very close together. Sanja, me and Ester kept our distance for the moment.

Izi increased her lead a bit on the way to buoy OW. Lucy, Amy and Ella were sailing sometimes after another or side by side in an really exciting “triel”. Sanja and me tried to catch up with them.

The turn around buoy OW and the way to buoy IS increased the distances between Ella, Lucy and Amy a bit. Sanja and me could catch up the them a little more. Izi looked still safe in the lead and Ester caught up a bit with the whole fleet.
But at buoy IS Izi’s internal navigation system was a bit confused and she sailed much too far to the east. Ella, Lucy and Amy tacked in time to buoy IN and passed her. I took the inside line near Sanja at buoy IS and wanted to take a bit of my speed to the east before i planned to tack to buoy IN. But i guess that was a bit to fast for Sanja, who tacked already at the buoy. My speed was high enough and i could save both of us by jumping over the front of her board.

Ella found the best line to buoy IN and took after her turn there the lead followed by Lucy. Izi came back after her little detour 3rd and i could pass with a better line to buoy IN Amy and Sanja. Ester still catching up slowly with the fleet.

On the following high speed leg to buoy CS Lucy caught up with Ella again and the two raced side by side. Amy and i could catch up with Izi and we created a triple line side by side. Sanja and Ester were following us.

Ella and Izi did the best upwind leg to buoy CN. Ella sailed a bit away from Lucy and Izi caught up with Lucy. Behind them i could defend my lead to Sanja and Amy. Ester still in popcorn position at the end.

The finish was as exciting and close as the whole race. The photo finishes:Ella, Lucy and Izi within 2sec and me, Amy and Sanja behind them within 5sec.

the finish of race 2: 1. Ella, 2. Lucy, 3. Izi, me, 4. Amy, 5. Sanja, 6. Ester (video by Noe)

Congrats to Ella for her win of the second race.

While i was writing this exciting race report Ester showed me an awesome video to calm down again and i really have to show you all this as well:

Ester found this peaceful and exciting video on YouTube

We were very much concerned about the sl conditions and crossed all our fingers and toes for good races and we got a lot more … really exciting races with lots of exciting duels and position changes. Congrats to Sanja and Ella to win one race each and to all others to stay this fair in the heat of the race.

And the biggest thank to Noe who did all those awesome videos in this report.

  1. Bianca, die erste Textzeile unter photos/videos ist neuerdings oft versteckt unter der grafikdatei. Ich füge einfach eine zusätzliche Leerzeile ein um das Problem zu beheben.
