Amy (with Crew Ester), Lucy, Ella, Nicci, Esme (with crew Zia), Moon (with crew Joi), Cilian, Jay and Myst (with crew Raccheal) came yesterday to our normal B22 course and wind from North east with 21knots. The weather was fine with one disconnect for Myst and one for me.
Ella was just a little less of a second too early at the line and turned around before the line. Amy took the chance and won the start followed by Cilian, Esme and Nicci. Moon, Lucy, Jay and Myst follwed as the second group and Ella after letting them all pass at the end.
Amy used her start win to reach buoy CS first. The group behind her with Cilian, Moon, Lucy and Nicci grew a bit closer together and reached nearly parallel buoy CS
A second group with Esme, Myst, Ella and Jay reached buoy CS just a bit later.
At this point the majority normally sails first north and take the speed out of the downwind leg with them and tack then a bit later to buoy OE. But yesterday all tacked right away to the east. That meant they passed the start line very close again and i needed to warn some not to cross it now already.
They all grew on the upwind leg to buoy OE closer together.
I didn’t survive the next crossing and got disconnected while the fleet did the fast downwind leg to buoy CN and the upwind leg to buoy OE.
On the following downwind leg to buoy OW Amy managed to sail away a bit from Moon
Nicci and Lucy had the whole way from buoy OW via Degrand Island, buoy, OW, IS, IN and half way to buoy CN and exciting close duel like you see on the next photo with Ella in her popcorn position just behind them
Behind Ella was the group with Jay, Cilian and Esme having another exciting and close “threesome” duel.
Lucy could s<ail a bit away from Nicci on the downwind leg to buoy CN and Ella could pass Nicci on the same downwind leg.
On the downwind leg between buoy CN and CS Moon found the best line and could save all his speed into the turn around buoy CS. Amy did there a little slower turn and Moon passed her there with his lot more of speed. Now he used all his experiences from uncounted match racing duels and could keep Amy behind him until the finish.
Ella caught up meter after meter with Lucy and and both finished with the same time separated only by a blink.
Cilian sailed a bit away from Esme and Esme a bit away from Jay on the final leg.
The duels between Moon and Amy and Ella and Lucy on the final leg were very exciting and i had to watch them closer. Thats why i couldn’t position my cam right in time for Moons finish picture. Sorry Moon, but congrats for your great last minute win.
Bad luck at the start of Ella but an awesome chase afterwards, lots of hot and exciting duels and position changes along the course and an awesome last minute turn of Moon at the last buoy characterized an exciting race again. Congrats again to Moon and all others for this cool race.
