I Have Problems With Linux Mint

LOL! ๐Ÿ™‚ Ya,of course I have probs with Mint, like everybody has, but that’s not the main topic of this blog entry. It’s the clickbaity title of this YouTube video. Watch it, read the comment section with comments from, among others, a certain Orca Flotta. And let’s discuss after you’re done with the video, ok?

Today I revisit the idea of Linux Mint and express some of my opinions on their way of doing things.

Ok, welcome back. So, what strikes me here first and foremost is that the guy isn’t really criticising the distro but its developers. So no worries newcomers, you choose the right stuff. Mint is all sorts of cool.

But of course there is a lot to be said about Clem and his crew and their demeanour towards Ubuntu/Canonical. And many/most of us wished they wouldn’t waste all their time with trying to undo Ubuntu’s stupidities but instead break away and focus 100% on the Debian-based LMDE. Give it the Mate and Xfce desktops back, maybe even a KDE/Plasma version. Oh, and use a slightly more risky semi-rolling Debian base. Remember you got a lot of time on your hands once you broke free from Canonical.

Time to create something new, not time to undo other people’s mistakes, ffs!

Up to now it always took you at least two months to sprinkle your secret Minty sauce onto the Ubuntu base distro until you came out with your own. I guess nobody would complain if you took your time to come up with your own better version of LMDE. Just add some magick minty fairy dust and you’re the bestest alround distro on the planet. Free of the Ubuntu ballast, free of all the time-consuming stress!

Butbutbut, kids, you know, or you’ll know after some time on Linux, maybe 50% of you will feel the need to branch out and explore more, other distros. And many of you rebels will probably find their way to an Arch-based distro. Asides from having just opened a whole new can of worms you can at least congratulate yourself for escaping the Deb/Ubu environment. ^.^

Speaking of Arch and new worms, has anyone seen Becca lately? Last I heard was that she attempted to install Manjaro … and then a hole in the ground opened … and swallowed her out of existence? Maybe a wormhole?

BECCA? … BECCA? … BECCA? … Hellooooooooooo…???

  1. Helloooo Orca ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m still here, just not commenting so much. It’s been a busy summer. Now I’m going out of town for a wedding over the weekend and even taking my Manjaro laptop with me. I’ll be writing something about that in the near future I hope.

    • Pheew! Good to hear you’re doing well. And I’m exstatic about you’re not taking your Windows-, not even your Minty- but your Manjaro-machine on tour with you. Even KDE. I wouldn’t dare such a stunt. Too afraid to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere and no clue how shit werkz. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
      You’re so kool!

  2. LOLOL! It worked just fine for getting all my news and e-mails and stuff. Even a Netflix movie ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m back safe and sound after a wonderful trip. I hope no Covid for anyone after a wedding reception with 120 people in one room and no masks. If I showed you a pic of the dance floor you would scream. So I will not. Darn irresponsible Americans she says.

    • “Darn irresponsible Americans she says.”

And how do I say it? RIGHTFULLY SO! And ‘irresponsible Americans’ only coz your wedding happened thereabouts. You’ll find Covidiots all around the rock.
OTOH, it’s gotta be said that all of the attending lucky 150 were probably healthy and fit. So the risk is minmal. Otoh it only needs one to start the spread. ๐Ÿ˜
