Windsurfing Race Day 32 with Sea Boss Rider at Saint Aubrey yesterday

Lets start with the easiest. Sanja, Izi, Ella, Amy, Ester and Lucy joined me yesterday on our windsurfing courses 1 and 2 with wind from the South and 25 knots.

The weather yesterday was really fine 2 hours before the races and then we got local thunderstorms. It disconnected me in first race 2 sims before the finish. Lucy lagged at the crossing before the start and when she got her control back she was nearly through the whole sim already far away from the course and crashed in second race. And it was randomly very laggy for the sailors at different times. So i can say very strange.

I had lots of lag during the races yesterday and i got turned several times on crossings by 15-30°. To avoid this i had to sail very concentrated which didn’t give me time to make many pictures or even videos. Hakiria was away in RL and Lucy tried to do a video after her crash in the second race, but we all were grey. So thank to Amy and Kaeda with helping out a little.

the fleet at the briefing

Shame we cant see the starts from yesterday on video, because i think they were the closest we had so far.
In first race Sanja, Amy, Izi and Ella started within 2 sec nearly parallel. Ester, Lucy and i had lag issues with the crossings before the start and crossed the line later.

Amy excused herself already at the briefing for bumping us others, because she had some Aperol-Spritz-Cocktails already.

Amy’s doping before the race

She didn’t bump someone, but she lost lots of time on the laps because of too much of her Aperol doping.

chasing Ella and Izi in race 1

I had Amy, Ella, Izi and Sanja in front of me after the start and could pass Amy on leg 1. At buoy OE in lap 1 Sanja turned really sharp in front of me and i could only jump over board. On the following final leg of lap 1 i could pass her. Ella and Izi were having the whole two laps a very close duel (as you can see in the picture) and on the very last meters before the finish line Izi passed Ella and won the first race.
On the second lap Sanja got me again at buoy OE. But this time i couldnt jump over her board and we both got stopped and had to start slowly new… One crossing later SL took me out of the race by disconnecting me.
Sanja finished then 3rd, Lucy 4th, Amy 5th and Ester 6th, but i didnt see anything of that and was trying to come back as fast as i could.
Congrats Izi for your win of race 1.

The start of race 2 was even closer than the first one. This time the first 5, Sanja, Izi, Ella, Amy and me started within 2 sec parallel and at full speed. Great start timing again.

We 5 sailed nearly as close as we started to the second buoy IS. The turns there made bit the difference and i could sail a bit away from the others. Sanja was still quite close in my neck while Amy, Ella and Izi still had their threesome duel.

On the downwind leg to buoy ON and the upwind leg to buoy OE the positions settled and the distance between the sailors became quite safe. No more really close duels until the finish line.

The finish: 1. Sanja
2. Izi
3. Ella
4. Amy
5. Ester

Congrats to Sanja for her win of the second race.
Summary from yesterday: Awesome sailing, exciting duels and position changes and annoying SL issues and lag.

Standing overall St AR 2021 SeaBossRider Championship (after 64 races):
Sailor-points (number of races)

Ella and Ester have reached the maximum number of races now as well and so i will count for them only the best 55 results from now on.

Stay all safe and healthy and hope to see you all next week again on our reversed courses 4 and 3 with wind from North East and 25 knots.

hugs and kisses

  1. A few notes from my perspective… as I remember it in all the excitement.

The boards of Ella and me were trying to kiss the whole of race 1 (or was it their riders?) 🙄 But on the last long leg to OE, I caught a turbot fish and attached it to my board, and so I was able to inch past Ella to windward just before we reached OE. Smelly, but effective! I had the inside line tacking at the mark and could just keep my slender lead to the finish.

After a good start on race 2, I inexplicably went too far south of CS, and had already thrown away several seconds when I reached IS. At least I had space to make a quick turn, was able to catch up with Ella, and so started our kissing again in the long reaches east to OE and back west to CN. I was to leeward on both legs, so I kept to my line… not so much because I was allowed to, but because I liked it. 🙄

But then on the penultimate leg upwind to OE, Ella tried something that didn’t work well (she told us at the Tiki Bar afterwards), and so ended our friendly embrace as I saw her dot fall back. So sad… but I wasn’t going to slow down!

Exciting racing, and lovely camaraderie during and after the races. Thanks as ever to Bianca, our wonderful RD and friend!
