Windsurfing Race Day 31 with Sea Boss Rider at Saint Aubrey yesterday

Sanjy, Ella, Izi, Lucy, Amy, Ester and Jay joined me yesterday on our windsurfing courses 1 and 2 with wind North and 25 knots. Bright sunshine for all let finish all in both races.

I have a routine at the briefing. I ask every time before the start to check everything:
“race check: Course loaded in USB, prestart timer resetted to 00:00:00, minimap open, map open?”
But from time to time one sailor overlooks this. Yesterday it was Ester who had loaded the wrong course and did some detours in race 1.

We were yesterday back on our high speed courses and you can see clearly that all still know and enjoy these courses. The first 7 started within 9 sec. Only Jay in his first windsurfing race was a bit later at the start. But i am very sure that he will learn it very fast.

Start of the first race (video by Hakiria)

The fleet stayed close together until buoy CN in lap 1 and you can see how much all these sailors have improved when you look at the turns they did. There was just a little touch between Ella and Izi. But imagine they were reaching the buoy CN close together and changed to the first high speed leg to buoy OE.
I am so proud of this group and their improvements.

The first 6 speed junkies stayed close together until buoy OE in lap 1 and all with 15.5-16.5 knots. Izi last of those 6 after the turn around buoy CN could manage to pass Ella and Lucy and started lap 2 in front of them.

The start of lap 2 looked very similar to the start of lap 1. A close group with the brave sailing Jay a little behind.
Short after the start of lap 2 Lucy passed Ella and Izi passed Amy a little later, but the first 6 still stayed close together. Only Sanja and me were a little ahead, but the next 4 (Izi, Amy, Lucy and Ella) finished the race within 3sec. Ester tried hard to catch up with Jay after her detours, but couldn’t get him anymore.

The start of race 2 was even closer than the start of race 1. The first 7 started within 5sec. And as i said Jay will learn fast: He was at his second start already 10sec faster than on his first start.

Start of race 2 (video by Hakiria)

The fleet stayed close together for nearly the whole race again. And this time i watched several duels. I saw along the course nearly the whole time groups of 2 dots together, but don’t ask me who they were. The next video is an example for what i mean:

duel of Sanja and Izi on the way to buoy IS

You can have perfect weather conditions and concentrated sailor who avoid every dangerous cross. But then you have suddenly in the middle of the route one of the biggest BBX yachts and a totally confused driver. When he saw the fleet coming with high speed the best would have been he just hasn’t moved.
But well these BBX drivers moor their boats 95% of the time and have no clue how to drive their boats safely.
Most of the fleet tried to pass the BBX on the north side and i tried to pass it on the south side. So this driver turned first to the south and sent me make a big detour and then turned the boat to the north and did the same with all the others.
Well i don’t talk about a length of 20m, but about 80-100m. And it takes 15-20sec to pass it, if it is steered by a confused driver to all sides.

But fortunately all passed that BBX without major accidents. The duels continued after this incident on the following high speed legs until buoy CN. Only Sanja could sail a bit more away and i really tried all to catch up with her again, but i couldn’t.

The upwind leg to buoy ON and the following downwind leg to bouy OE spread out the fleet a bit and they all finished with a bit more time difference than in the first race.

Finish of race 2: 1. Sanja, me, 2. Ella, 3. Izi, 4. Lucy, 5. Amy, 6. Ester, 7. Jay

Congrats to Sanja for winning both races and to Jay who sailed bravely and pretty well already in his first windsurfing race ever.

      • Well, I have to confess that I cut off my biggest mistake in the race.

Note that in the take of ending first lap, I am more to south than the other racers and in the bottom left corner of screen appears the cam hud that wasnโ€™t present before ๐Ÿ˜‰

I reach a corner and my cam went off a bit earlier.

        • And you know who to blame for that, dontcha?
Nooo, not poor little Orcsi. Fuk no! But Bolsonaro! That gangster is the wurstest asshole on the planet, one could even think he’s an American double agent. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ He kaputted the Brasil interwebz! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    • Yes, Izi, the over-the-shoulder view gets us into the thick of the action much more intimately than the wide sweeping panoramas from the stadium perspective.

      • i love both of the. The Panorama videos show the fleet and give a story of the dynamic of the race and the over the shoulder videos show the dynamic of the duels. Both make these blogs perfect
