I tested yesterday the course on my motorboat after the rolling restarts and all went smooth for me. But as i mentioned already lots of times. Disconnects don’t look at conditions. They can happen randomly to everyone and everywhere. Like yesterday to Julie around buoy OW and later to Amy short before buoy ON.
Lisa, Lucy, Ella, Erin, Nicci (with crew Inocene) , Julie, Amy (with crew Ester), Moon, Rugger and Juicy came yesterday for our reversed B22 course and wind from North East and 21knots.
The start was one of the closest we ever had. Lucy started at 1sec 1st and Amy at 12sec 10th. So all 10 boats within 11 sec and without hits and fouls, all with high speed and spin. But look yourself:
The first leg was shaped by a lot of wind shadowing and the sorting of the boats was shuffled completely. While i watched that carefully the first reached already buoy CS, turned around it one after another and started the first short upwind leg. Behind them we had one close duel between Rugger, Juicy and Julie and they gave fair way to the others.
The fleet got sorted mostly until buoy CN
On the following downwind leg to buoy IS, upwind leg to buoy IN and downwind leg to buoy OW Lucy started her turbo and passed Erin, Moon and Ella and reached buoy OW second after the already far leading Lisa.
I saw Julie’s boat passing buoy OW and going straight north west with luffing sails. Unfortunately that is an indicator for a disconnect crash. Shame.
Nicci was a bit too optimistic at buoy OW and turned before the buoy. She had to sail back, turn around it properly again and fell back to the end of the fleet. Ella was a bit afraid of getting too much wind shadow and did a little detour, which let her fall back behind Moon, Rugger and Erin.
Lucy could sail away from Ella and Moon on the long upwind leg to buoy ON. Rugger caught up with Moon at buoy ON.
In the background you can see the disconnect crash of Amy. During the crossing her boat started to sail in circles without any control for her anymore. She was talking about lots of lag for her yesterday during the race already and here SL decided to stop her race finally.
Rugger and Moon started an exciting duel between buoy ON and OE and Moon won that and managed to sail a bit away from Rugger.
The same did Erin and Ella, but in their duel Ella could pass Erin on the way to buoy OE. Behind the two Nicci caught up slowly meter by meter.
Juicy crashed sometimes in the race as well, but he came back, continued sailing a lot behind the fleet and finished. Thats why i don’t have more picture of him during the race.
Nicci caught up a lot more with Erin on the last two legs.
Congrats to Lisa and her sovereign win, to awesome tactics and duels along the course of all and to some great re coverings after some mistakes.
