Winter at the Cape

Winter means rainy season hereabouts. That’s what we love about the Western Cape province. Winters are cold and wet, unlike further north-east, Jo’burg and shitty cities like that. They have rainy season in summer and all come here for vacations. Or at least they used to before Covid struck the planet. 😐

Our local stream, the Diep River can almost dry out completely in the summer. Look how wide it is now!
Now it’s kinda fast-flowing little stream. See those birdies? They love it.
The Diep River feeds our local Rietvlei nature reserve before it mounds into the Atlantic. And at this time of the year Rietvlei’s a very swampy wetland indeed.
