Race Day 25 with Bandit 22LTE at Saint Aubrey

Lisa, Lucy, Laured, Amy, Erin, Nicci, Ella, Moon and Juicy came yesterday for our normal course with wind from north east and 21 knots and all finished.

Look at this start. All 9 boats started within 10 sec and even the first 6 within 4 sec and as far as i could see no contact at all. The first seemed to be a bit early at the line and set up the spin very late. Lisa in the middle with the best timing to set the spin passed lots of boats shortly after the start line with the highest speed and took the lead.
Because of all were so close together the wind shadow games began and the ones on the “north” line were a little more lucky than the ones on the “south” line and first position changes happened already in the first leg to buoy CS.

The duels continued on the long upwind leg to buoy OE. Lisa and Moon could manage to sail a bit more in the front and in the background you can see Nicci having some issues. She didn’t realize that her jib was down for some seconds and she lost a lot of speed. After she set the jib again she started again to chase the fleet. And the ones in the middle tried to wind shadow each others.

Lucy chased Juicy, Amy chased Erin, Laured chased Moon and all chased Lisa… Ella took the more southern route to buoy OE and will meet the fleet at buoy OE again.

Lisa turned around buoy OE first. Erin could pass Laured and both caught up close with Moon, Lucy could pass Juicy and Amy. Ella arrived on starboard tack at buoy OE. Juicy on port tack forced her to go around him at buoy OE and got a penalty for that.

After buoy CN on the upwind leg to buoy ON it looks like Laured forgot the jib for some seconds and got passed by a some sailors.

the end of the downwind leg to buoy CN and the start of the upwind leg to buoy ON (video by Hakiria)

On the upwind leg some sailors chose an earlier tack and some a later one. But in the end they arrived all quite close together again at buoy ON.

On the upwind leg to buoy ON i missed that Laured on port tack crossed the line of Ella on starboard. Ella had to go around Laured to avoid a contact. This means normally penalty for Laured but i didn’t see it in the race.
See Lisa quite far in front and followed by Moon at buoy ON. The rest of the fleet close together with Nicci and Juicy a little behind.

Moon and Lucy following the leading Lisa at buoy IN

Lisa sailed safe in front on the long downwind leg to buoy OW. Lucy chased Moon and caught up slowly inch by inch.
Amy chased Erin and tried to wind shadow her. Erin defended her lead with a route outside the wind shadow of Amy. It was an exciting duel, which was unfortunately stopped by SL. Erin got turned around on the crossing into Degrand by about 90° to the south and had to get control of her boat back. She fell back behind Amy and Laured.
Amy, Laured, Erin and Ella started a group duel, which should last until the end of the race.

And again position changes on the downwind leg to buoy CS in the musketeer group.

the exciting musketeer group

On the last upwind leg to the finish line Laured, Erin and Amy were still fighting hard for another position change and behind them Nicci could pass Ella. So the 4 musketeers got a 5th member and finished all pretty close together

The finish part 1: 1. Lisa, 2. Moon, 3. Lucy, 4. Laured, 5. Amy, 6. Erin, 7. Nicci, 8. Ella (video by Hakiria)
The finish part 2: 9. Juicy (video by Hakiria)

Congrats to Lisa for her win and to all others for an so exciting race with all the duels and position changes. This was one of the most exciting race we had so far. Thank you all to give me such a good time to watch this race.

Hakiria built an awesome and cosy Tiki bar around the corner. Haki, Ezi and Ie jumped on some taxi boats and gave the other sailors a little ride to the bar where we all could cool down with lots of cold drinks, pizza snacks and some icecream dessert and chilling on the chairs.
