STÖMOL is still a thing? Ok then, get your fill of fan paraphernalia at the SL18B and, of course, in Huck’s blog:
In just over a month it will be a year since the release of my sci-fi machinima, STÖMOL. Since a big part of my motivation for creating the movie was to promote and celebrate Second Life, building an exhibition for SL18B – the celebration of SL’s 18th birthday, which opened today – seemed like an excellent idea to me.
STÖMOL: The Exhibition can be visited here. It’s right in front of the SL18B welcome area. You’ll find information about the locations used in the movie, an exhibition of the trading card art created for the merchandise, and a complete set from the film to explore. Or you can just kick back and watch the movie itself in the mini cinema. Have a hunt around with your cam whilst you’re there: super-sleuths will find a hidden link to some deleted clips from STÖMOL, and there’s even a concealed clue…

I kind of love the ‘STÖMOL is still a thing?’ thing (somewhat echoed by Strawberry’s “Do you guys remember this film last year?” remark on Lab Gab yesterday). First, it suggests STÖMOL was once a thing, and – yep – I’ll readily take ‘ex-thing’ over ‘non-thing’ any day! Second, I find this journey down the parabolic slide of obscurity oddly affirming: I figure I’m a couple of months at best away from “What-MOL?” and 10-15 years away from being asked to attend small scale SF conventions (the ones that get hosted in a local school hall) as the E-List celebrity no-one’s ever heard of that you avoid going up to in case they ask you what part of whatever-thing-it-was-they-were-in you liked the most. Oh yeah.

Dontcha worry about that small stuff. In SL, which is by no means a small world but much bigger than just the grid, you’re an A-lister, a bonafide SLelebrity. And please don’t ask me what part of Stömol I liked best, for I haven’t seen it yet. Shame on me n stuff. 😐
But yes, Stömol was or is a thing! Months of relentless campaigning, countless blogstories, Lab Gab,the SL18B exhibit. Alone the promotion was professional on a level far above everything we’ve seen in SL so far. And is yet unreached.
