Hello and a gud morning to all of you fraggelz out there in internetland
You’ve seen it yourself, my long-awaited visit to inworld SL failed, Oubaas is still away with the mecha, so I used the time wisely and looked into Linux affairs. So, as always and every morning, my first look is onto the DistroWatch site, and what do we see there? Some not very interesting new versions of not very interesting distros … so let’s quickly check the most nonsensical pop hit charts …
No more Top20 shit. We’ve entered Top5 territory, no look back on the losers, ever!
On first look nothing has changed: Our darling EOS still hangs out on rank #5, and that’s ok and everybody’s happy about it. But on second look we see Pop! is coming down to us and we’re in range of 100, respectively 99 HPDs. That’s really great n all coz I don’t think Pop! deserves to be on #4. It’s just an Ubuntu fork, nothing special. Ppl say it’s clever Shit but hey, it only comes with one desktop environment, the pretty much unacceptable Gnome shell. So how clever could it really be? For Linux housewifes not clever enuff!!! Also if you really want a clever Ubuntu fork, there’s always Mint, ready for you. And that Shit is damn clever, and it proves so every now and then. So, yes, let’s pass motherlovin’ Pop! … and then let’s stop.
Don’t get me wrong, I see EOS battling it out with Manjo, and hopefully losing to it, but Mint isn’t where it is completely undeserved neither. It is – I have to say it again – the most easy peasy, complete, userfriendly and unassuming Linux distro available. A spark of joy for n00bs and old salts alike. It wouldn’t be fair leaving it behind, trampled in the dust. 😦 Similarly goes for Manjaro, which fits the Mint slot, only in the Arch world. It just wouldn’t be fair if EOS ranks above those two giants one day.
Otoh, nobody wants fukn MX in the #1 spot. So instead of fighting Mint and Manjo, let’s gang up and get past that thing as a triumvirat of good and noble Linux distros! 🙂
Talking about Manjaro, yes I’m still on it …
At least on MiniMax – this blogging computer here – I’m not only still on Manjo but I even plan to stay here. The installation of the Nvidia graphics driver was so easy and uncomplicated and went without me having to alarm a whole forum about it. Come on, Endeavour, you know I love you but it’s the fukn year 2021 and Nvidia and its board partners are still the greatest graphics card manufacturer gang. So is it too much to ask for a smooth install routine? According to Mint and Manjaro it’s not. And that’s why my SL playing and blogging machine runs on Manjaro … and happily so. Will keep my netbook and my small Lenovo machines on Endeavour, they don’t feature Nvidia and are pretty rugged and don’t care an iota what OS is running on them.
Oh, the kernel? Yes, it automatically updated from rc1 to rc4 since my last writeup, MiniMax runs like a dream (knock on wood) and Orca feels super smug. As if she had a clue what she’s doing. 😉 These little successs stories part of your daily life in Windows too? Mhm, I thought so and I pity you. 😐
MiniMax looks happy on Manjaro! 🙂
