The Last Action Hero

Full story here.

Can you believe it, just the other day someone told without a doubt that Auschwitz was liberated by the USArmy. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ No, hun, not a single American made it that far east in WWII. Berlin was their terminus station, where they were welcomed by the Red Army who had just concquered Hitler’s capitol. Ok?

  1. I can verify that we are taught in school that Americans, and only Americans, freed all the camps.

We are not taught that our military knew Japan was going to surrender before we dropped the bombs. Nor that dropping those bombs was a crime against humanity. Nor very much about Japanese internment camps and the crimes against citizens of Japanese decent.

Hell, it was literally just this weekend that the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre (aka destruction of “Black Wall Street”) was discussed in most news outlets.

America likes to paint a rosy pic of itself. Many people never learn any different.

    • I’ve heard the Japanese were so jaded and exhausted at that point that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just two more bombs for them. Don’t forget that nobody had any clue about the longterm damage of nuclear pollution. Their biggest concern was a probable Soviet invasion from the north. That possibility made them really piss their pants.

About the internment camps I heard for the first time in Snow Falling on Cedars:

And about Tulsa Race Massacre I heard earlier this week for the first time ever.

Every country likes to paint itself in a favourable light. But most don’t use outright lies to keep their own population and allies in line.
