Yesterday we were back at St Aubrey for our I-Mocca60 offshore race again and we used another new wind to make it a bit more interesting. North West and 18knots. If you do it alone you can make it in about 36min. But yesterday was a bit of a crazy race day again.
Kim, Dae (with crew Tama), Moon, Sirius and Juicy came for the race.
I was just ready to click the start button when Viv arrived and she told us we shouldnt wait, she will follow. So we did.
The start was a bit sleepy by all. Dae crossed first and took the lead. A little after her Juicy, Sirius and Moon started and Kim followed them all. In the meantime Viv was ready and raised her sails to chase the whole fleet.
Dae and her crew Tama did a perfect turn around buoy OE and sailed away quickly when the Sirius, Moon and Juicy arrived at the same buoy.
Dae was very safe in the lead, but crashed just before her first tack to the North. It took a while and several tries until she could get back on the boat. Viv passed Juicy, Kim and Sirius and caught up meter by meter with Moon. But some sims north of Dae’s crash she tacked too late and ran into one of the private sims along the course and crashed. She needed a bit of time as well to come back and continue.
Sirius and Kim passed Dae and Viv again and had after that an exciting close duel for quite a while.
In the meantime Moon sailed without any issues safely far in the front.
Viv got back on her boat and started her chase of Kim and Sirius.
With a fast turn around the Lighthouse and a following fast sail change Viv passed Kim south of the Lighthouse and caught up with Sirius around the sandy island.
Dae was back on her boat and switched on the turbo to chase the fleet.
Viv passed Sirius on the long leg to buoy OW.
On the way to buoy ON Dae passed Kim and aimed for Sirius.
Around Degrand island Dae passed Sirius and was already again 3rd. In this order they finished. Only Juicy was a bit lost in his race and even crashed on a sim cross after second time Degrand island. He sailed bravely but then he gave up and came to the marina for his beer. Adeli and I offered him some IMocca lessons and hope he will come and take them. It will help him for next races.
Crashes are never nice for the ones who crash, but yesterday the crashes of Dae and Viv added some extra hunting spices to the race behind Moon. So congrats to Moon for his win and to Dae and Viv who didn’t give up and made an awesome comeback.
