Race Day 19 with Bandit 22LTE at Saint Aubrey

Lisa, Reni, Nicole, Nicci, Emileigh, Ella, Rugger, Moon (with crew Nata), Amy (with crew Ester) and Lucy came yesterday for our normal course and wind from South West with 21knots. Lucy went suddenly offline just before i started the prestart and Amy got pushed by another lagging boat during prestart into a crossing and her boat stopped working. Shame that the two didnt see the start line and could join the race, because all other 9 finished after an exciting race.

After the start signal i saw them all moving to the east. But after they left i saw only Rugger coming back. The others lagged massively on my screen. I saw Rugger went over early, turned back, went then along the line on starboard tack and restarted in time. I saw the starting time of all in my chat and a little later i saw the boats as well again.

Now looking at the start video i saw the mess. Yes Rugger was on starboard tack when he went along the line and all others started on port tack. There was enough time for Rugger to turn to the line before he hit Massimo. With starboard rule it was Massimo’s foul, but i hope somebody knows that there is an exception.

Nicole, Lisa, Reni, Nicci, Massimo and Emileigh started best with a good line to the first buoy. Lisa took the advantage of her being on the windward side of Nicole, passed her on the way to the first buoy CS and reached it first.
Emileigh said her USB Hud lagged, messed up and showed her the next wp somewhere and that explains a bit why she went suddenly after the start to the North West. With that she had a really bad angle to the first buoy and fell back behind Rugger.

On the first downwind leg to buoy OE Nicole and Reni started an exciting duel for the silver medal. Reni used the wind shadow to catch up with Nicole and Nicole tacked to escape that. Reni’s strategy worked. She could catch up with Nicole, passed her and turned around buoy OE before Nicole. These two stayed close together until the finish and had an exciting duel.

On the upwind leg to buoy CN two more battling groups came out: Nicci and Rugger and Emileigh, Massimo and Ella.

The downwind leg to buoy ON, the long upwind leg to buoy OW and the following downwind leg to buoy IN Lisa, Reni and Nicole held their positions. But behind them Rugger passed Nicci, Massimo sailed away from Ella and Moon and Emileigh started an exciting duel.

On the way back to the finish Ella got turned around and Moon and Emileigh passed her.

The SL conditions were nice to us yesterday with some little exceptions: Moon with a broken cam and the following resit to reset the cam at the beginning and Ella’s turn around in the end. The rest was filled with exciting duels, some position changes and a clean win of Lisa. Congrats.

    • Thx for the reblog, LA.
I just fail to see how your readers would be interested in results of sail races in a virtual world. My co-bloggers Bianca and Lucy’s races are as fringe as fringe can be. Even in Second Life it’s only a small minority of residents/players who are interested in, and technically able, to participate in the sport of competitive sailing, and understand its intricacies.

  1. Lisa was having her problem with an unwanted crew when everything freezed, and then my view greyed and I was booted from SL. It was my internet connection that poofed. It took some 15-20 to come back, but then it was too late.

I returned, but not in the mood for socialization, I left. Glad that all went fine for most, but poor Amy.

    • Yes i saw you disappearing and missed you during the race. I am very sorry that it happened, but i can understand that you didnt want to sail 15min behind all or wait 20min and then tell all the sad story.
I hope you will have more fun tomorrow.
      hugs…
