1 Year Anniversary on EndeavourOS

Morning bloggies

After an unsatisfying first test I finally installed EOS on my hardware and was smitten. A fan for life, as this system made the installation process super duper easy (think Mint) and didn’t try to chaperone me. No forced back-ups, no overabundance of apps nobody wants or needs (bloat) but just the basic desktop, of which you find many in EndeavourOS, waiting to be populated by you. In fact is the good old Firefox browser the only thing you get. Need anything else? Well, the Arch world is your oyster. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So, after a year on EOS I know each and every software I’ve installed additionally.

Because I installed them. Installed each one for a specific reason. From the obvious Thunderbird (for mails), Qbittorrent (for all my piratey needs, arr matey!) and the inevitable Gimp (for fuking around with images) up to freaky little programs like Warpinator (to send and receive files in between my 3 desktop PCs and our 2 laptops). And, of course my brave Singularity Second Life viewer in Alpha version, directly from the Arch User Repository (AUR). That’s another cool thing about Linux, and especially Arch: In a tech-forward virtual world like SL you’ll find many Linux users and naturally even some wonderful geeks to pack the two most beloved viewers, Firestorm and Singularity, into the AUR. So, we don’t need to frequent their respective websites but can, in best Linux tradition, download the goodies directly from one or the other repo.

And some less used programs, like PhotoFiltre, the easy and quick to use graphics software from France, games, office suites and lots of little helpers and paraphernalia, like the often used screenshot program … oh and countless multimedia players and recorders.

Second Life installed like a dream! Hello Orca. =^.^=

And what I’d never expected in the first place, EOS has a really nice forum! ๐Ÿ™‚ In fact they are so nice there I already got some warnings for using the F-bomb too much. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ That’s how fukn nice they are! Otoh you will never get the stereotypical RTFM answer when you come up with a stupid question, but one of the geeks will take care of you personally. And, by god, this is so needed sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m on Linux since late 2013 and know my way around but I’m not an expert, not a geek, just a parrot repeating what I hear from superior computer geeks.

I am very happy that my techy probs are sorted by now. MiniMax is fully functional on a fully functional EndeavourOS from which I can start a fully functional Second Life session at any time. Just in time for my anniversary! \o/

Hello from the future of computing! EndeavourOS on MiniMax, 16.04.2021

    • Indeed it does. Dunno why exactly, coz it’s not spectacular or groundbreaking in any way. It’s just … right. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And that’s why EOS rocks my computers since one year.
