Corona Diary: Day 342

Hai peepelz

I told you that SA is going down to Leevl 1 lockdown now, which is the lightest form and almost back to life as normal. We just have to wear our masks in public, are supposed to social distance and sanitize ever so often.

And of course I’m not the only sceptic in the country …

The total deaths recorded in SA stands at 50 007. The country has recorded just over 1.5 million Covid-19 cases with 566 cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane said while she always applauded any reduction in the number of infections and deaths, she emphasised this didn’t mean residents were safe.

“The virus is still there, and it poses a threat to all of us. Therefore, it is crucial for all of us to continue adhering to the precautions, such as the wearing of face masks when venturing into the public or when in the company of elderly people or those with co-morbidities, social distancing of at least 2 metres and regular washing of hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitiser.”

The Department said it continued with its loud-hailing activities throughout the province. They encourage communities to agree to be vaccinated when the vaccine becomes available to the general public.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday evening that the country would move to alert level 1 from Monday with an easing of restrictions on gatherings, the sale of alcohol and curfew.

The president said that despite the move, the threat of a third wave of Covid-19 infections remained.

“The easing of restrictions should not be viewed as a reason to abandon precautions. The threat of a third wave is constantly present, as is the threat of yet more new variants,” said Ramaphosa.

The 501Y.v2 variant has been largely responsible for driving the spike in infections in South Africa during the second wave of the pandemic.

“Because the new variant is transmitted more easily, it has the potential to infect more people, place a greater strain on our health system and lead to a greater loss of life,” he said.

See, that’s why I rather trust a Professor of Vaccinology than our president, Papa Smurf. Ramaphosa has first announced the easing down to lockdown level 1 (in order to save the economy) and now he plays the voice of reason? Bloddy compromised politician! 😦

But ok, all in all he maneuvred battleship South Africa through the rough sea of Corona in a very sovereign and cool demeanour and only caved in to the business people a tiny little bit. 😉

We, my friends, you and I, we won’t lower our shields that easily, no? Coz we’re on ground level, fighting the fuxn virus day by day with all the known measures: Sanitize, wash, vitamins, distance … until this shit is over. Once and for all!

You with me or do you have a deathwish?

LOL
