Race Day 7 with Bandit 22LTE at Saint Aubrey

The weather conditions yesterday were actually quite well. We had 14 boats at the startline waiting for the start:
Sea, Laured, Reni, Lisa, Adeli, Nicci, Lucy, Erika, Jenna, Nicole, Moon, Balut, Cilian, Rugger lined up at the start and Juicy joined us 10sec after the prestart was started as the 15th boat for our reversed B22 course with wind from South West and 21knots.

All nicely lined up and ready for a new exciting race

Laured followed unfortunately the example of Moon last week and crashed unfortunately before she saw the startline. During the race we lost Rugger and Sea, who came back after a crash but sailed then straight back to the marina. So i could count her only as “Not Finished” as well. But 12 sailors finished after a very interesting and exciting race.

On my screen the start looked like a mess. I saw so many boats flying around at the start and on the first 2-3 sims and after Laured told me she crashed before the start, I was really concerned about the conditions. But fortunately all calmed down on my screen and maybe it was only my slow connection that let me think this.

Jenna was a bit overearly at the start and had to start again. The rest of the fleet started this time a lot slower than the weeks before. Either the conditions were worse or the upwind start this week caused that:

You will see that a lot of duells along the course and we had a lot of winners and heroes in this race. But i need to mention two of them specially.
First Moon who won the first leg and kept the lead followed close by Adeli, Lisa and Reni. This group stayed close together nearly the whole race until Moon got pulled off the boat before buoy ON later, got back on his boat and started a really great comeback until the finishline.
Second Jenna who was overearly at the start, started after most others again and then chased nearly the whole fleet and passed nearly all, one after another with great sailing (see her second last on the following picture).

the fleet after the first leg
Reni, Jenna, Nicole and Nicci at buoy CN following the leading Moon, Adeli and Lisa
Moon safe in front after the next long upwind leg to buoy IS followed by Lisa, Adeli and Reni
Jenna on her try to pass Nicole followed by Juicy, Nicci and Rugger at buoy IS
Erika, Balut, Cilian and Sea at the end of the fleet at buoy IS
Moon at buoy OW still leading the race but Lisa caught up slowly followed by Adeli and Reni
Jenna passed Nicole before buoy OW and the group of Juicy, Nicci and Rugger close behind Nicole
Balut and and Cilian could pass Erika on the way to buoy OW
and Erika tried to strike back

Just 2 or 3 sims before buoy ON Moon got pulled off his boat, recovered and started his great little comeback.

Lisa and Adeli now leading the fleet after Moon fell back
Jenna caught up with Reni and started to pass her as well
Moon passed Nicole already again and started to chase Reni and Jenna
Nicci folowing at buoy ON
Juicy and Lucy in their duell at buoy ON
Balut and Cilian in their duell at buoy ON
Erika still trying to catch up with Balut and Cilian at buoy ON
Jenna passed Reni and Moon caught up with Reni at buoy OE

Jenna, Reni and Moon looked quite safe in their positions at buoy OE. But the advantage of this longer course is that you always have the chance to catch up again. You will see on the finish picture a bit later that Reni and Moon did that very nicely.

Lisa finished 1st, congrats Lisa
Adeli finsihed 2nd

If you miss Reni on the next picture… well… she is just between Jenna and Moon and you can only see her mast top a little behind Jenna’s mast and sails.

Jenna finished 3rd 1sec before Reni (4th) and 4 sec before Moon (5th)
Nicole finished 6th
Balut finished 7th follewd only 2sec by Lucy (8th)
Nicci finished 9th followed close by Cilian (10th)
Erika finished 11th after passing Juicy (12th) again

I hope the pictures show the excitement of the race a bit. Watching this race for me was on one side very relaxed, because all sailed even having lots of duells and position changes totally fair and on the other side very exciting because of all the duells and position changes. Thank You guys, you made this race another great event.

  1. “15th boat for our reversed B22 course”

15 boats??? Are you guys completely gaga now? 15 boats. We didn’t even had that many in 2007 when the Saturday SYC races were livestreamed by an Australian TV team. And everybody wanted to be on TV.
And you just do it week after week, like 15 boats is completely normal. And you don’t even wonder that the grid didn’t explode! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I’m soo fukin proud of you and your racers.
