The last year was already a nice year with nearly every week of exciting races at TrYC, but it ended sad and in a mess. So we had to get out head up again and found another idea:
Saint Aubrey Airfield and Yacht Club.
A team of the owners Hakiria, Kess and Bull OGrady, Adeli, Lalia started working hard on the new special raceline, a club collection of sailing clothes, club designs for boats, some reorganisations on the sim, creating and testing of new courses, announcing the new spot to more interested sailors and many little details more to get back into the racing calendar beginning of 2021. A lot of sailors loved to help us with testing courses and line and gave us feedbacks, which we used to optimise little details. The final test last week was already a success and you can read about it in an earlier blog here.
What shall i say more about our opening day yesterday than it was a BLAST. First Agatha with her friends of the “The France Patrol (Patrouille de France)” showed the spectators an awesome show of flying. Sorry i couldnt catch it better than this, but i am still on a slow internet:
After the Flight Show we saw an awesome firework organised and set up by Nathalia.
The only little detail we never thought about was that the sim is only homestead and can take only 25 user. It was full at the start of the show (we really have to think about some more watching points in the neighbor sims). The spectators stayed to watch the race as well. So our racers had to get into their boats, catch the wind and sail already to the startline to give more racers the chance to join.
In the end we had 14 boats at the line and a marina full of spectators and i couldnt even get them all on one picture. Lucy, Lisa, Nicole, Daenery, Adeli, Nicci, Sea, Moon, Sirius, Rolo, Rugger, Juicy, Deacon and Balut joined the first race in 2021 at Saint Aubrey.

And then … finally… our first race was started and all tried to find the best postition for their start with North East wind and 21knots on our new course “St AR – B22LTE – 1”. Sea arrived at the marina right in the moment when the fleet started to cross the line and followed all with a little distance

Nicci went over the line overearly but no message came up. She turned around the bouy and followed the fleet. I couldnt check in that moment why it happened, but she got the right race wind and she sailed the whole course in the right way and finished. Thats why i added her manually into the results (see at the end).
The first leg was a fast downwind leg and the fleet arrived pretty close together at the first buoy.
Half of the fleet led by Adeli went first north after buoy CS and tacked then east to buoy OE while the other half led by Daenery sailed the more southern route to buoy OE.

At the buoy OE all came together and the fleet started to create 2 major groups.

The upwind leg to buoy ON saw again two groups. Some went first to the east and tacked then north and the others went first north and then tacked east and north to buoy ON.

Somewhere on the long leg to buoy OW we lost Rugger, Rolo and Juicy with crash. Sorry for you guys. You did so well until then.

I had to fly more for and back to see what happened to our crasher s and who was still in the race at the end of the fleet.

And then the fleet arrived back at the raceline.

We continued the “tradition” of exciting races with the Bandit 22LTE and saw a lot of great duells, awesome sailing, lots of position changes and 11 out of 14 finishers. Look at the race times and you will see what i mean.

While i was fixing the result list and trying to follow the chat of all Bull asked me if i can start my stream and the party. Well i put fast some songs together and started our first after race party “Rock the Dock”:
People left one after another slowly for another race or their deserved bedtime, but in the end the party lasted 2hours until the last went slowly for bed.
I am still amazed by the popularity of the whole event with the flight show, the race and the after race party.
Thank you all for helping me and coming and making this day one of the coolest events i ever hosted in SL and i hope i will see all of you again for more exciting racing fun.
Stay all safe and healthy.
hugs and kisses
Bianca
Nice race! Congrats to all sailors.
Funny thing, reading your in-world notice, Bianca, which I did too fast I guess, I thought you were starting a mixed-fleet Star/B22 regatta!
Now, that I read it more clearly, I get it: It is not “St AR” as a STAR boat, but “St AR” as in St Aubrey Racing (?)… You doing Star races would have been surprising given your “love” for that boat, ahaha!
Cheers! Love ya, dear 🙂

The Star is a boat for fat old men and has no place in young and skinny and girlpowered Second Life. =^.^=

I beg to differ, at least with regards to SL boats: The TMS Star is one of my favorite racing boats in SL, especially since she behave more realistically than most, her speed notwithstanding (the SL version is much faster than the real thing).

Yes I know. But have you seen the brutes who sail the Star in the meat world? 😮

When i created the name for our new group and for the races here i knew it will cause some confusions in the beginning and thats why i try to write it like “St AR”, but if it will stay popular like this people will get used to the little detail…at least i hope… hahahaha

Awesome! I’m so jealous I missed it … but then … it’s my own fault isn’t it?
“we lost Rugger, Rolo and Juicy with crash.”
Was Juicy at least IDd this time?
😉

i never had in one of my one class races 14 boats so far and i was really surprised about the popularity of the whole event. And i know we wont have that every week now, but our race area, our rez and start area and the new special line managed all with great success… so i am looking forward to a great year of sailing here…
in TMS or Bandit boats the ID comes automatically with the race wind and so he was fine yes.
