Two favourites of the unwashed masses, two very practical and easy to grasp operating systems. Nearly identical Ubuntu bases, nearly identical Mate desktop environments, and still two very different attempts to define a GNU/Linux distribution that works for everybody:

Ubuntu is very good term to define the philosophy of Free and Open Source Software, of which GNU/Linux is a part. So for Mark Shuttleworth – as a born and bred South African – it was a kinda logical name for his Linux project.

My Arches, regardless of distro, have a habit of booting into dark, blank spaces, if they boot at all. As a very seasoned Linux user, I always have Mint Cinnamon on USB somewhere. And, because it works, I keep using it. No nasty surprises.

Your Arches are weird, dear Anon. You using vanilla Arch or any of the Archies? I can vouch for Manjaro, Namib, Archman and Endeavour all starting as supposed, every time, every day. 😉

Tried all of them, all have the same error. The Debian-based stuff work better.

If it was an Arch error many more users would have the same experience. But we don’t! Seems like an exotic hardware prob or wrong preparation. For me Endeavour installs and boots up as smooth as a baby’s ass. Ok, install takes really long, prolly caused by the many desktops it needs to sort out and online updating while installing. But all very smooth.
But keeping a stick with LMDE around is a very professional and clever move. Everyone should do it!

It is rather prime hardware and all other distros run on it flawlessly and so does the superior Windows 10 Pro, the pick of the bunch. I am an IT expert and dislike the unpredictabity of the Arches. You won’t sway me; experience is convincing. Good for you if you love third grade shit.

I am not here to convince anyone. Unlike you, at least I have experience of Win 10 but I recall you trashing stuff you never tried. Pretty dafy for an IT person to be that irrational. Three distros you recommended were shit, so I trust my own experience more than your opinion. I don’t take advice from radicals and commies.

I have experience with Win 3.0 ,3.1, NT, 95, 98, XP, Vista and Win7 only, tnat is true. But at a certain point common sense takes over and functionality of an OS becomes a sideshow when you see it in the context of its infrastrtructure of contractional laws, serial numbers, stupid licenses and proprietary walled garden solutions that restrain you more than setting you free.
In so far I didn’t need to try Win10 to come to the conclusion that its not acceptable for usage by human beings. BTW, I tried it, as I had to remove it from a computer before I put Linux on it. I played around in Win10, found out the few cool things in Win10 they got from Linux in the first place, so no feeling of loss when I ditched it.

3 distros I recommended were superduper at the time when I ran them, and as soon as I find any Arch even better than EnOS, believe me, I’ll be over there. I’m not loyal to any computer soiftware.

Why would you trust your own experience? Everybody knows that’s the least reliable nominator, particularly when you see hundreds and thousands of users without any probs around you.
That’s experience, not just by my but by nearly everybody. So you don’t have to trust my opinion. But believe the facts.

Neither do I! That would be stupid in a computer OS context. I’m always going for the most comfy, snuggly, easypeasy solutions, they way of the least resistance. If you find that radical, Karmi, sorry I can’t help you any further.
