Most exciting thing happening today: Failed ArchLinux update! ๐ฎ
Look:

Ok, shit n stuff. ๐ฆ Doesn’t matter, we still have the trusty terminal and a gaggle of super duper geeky commands to type in. Mhm …

Now what?
If this was Windows my computer would be ruined by now and unusable until Microsoft finds a solution. But since this is Linux – and not even some run-of-the-mill Ubuntu shit but glorious always up-to-date Arch … we just don’t do nothing!
Hubby just had the same update failure on his machine, so we know it’s not a personal Orca problem but system wide, concerning all Arch Linux installs all over the world. So we’ll just sit it out and wait for a solution from upstream. Which will come through later today, maybe tomorrow or one of the next days. Won’t probably take any longer. And even if … as you can see I’m blogging right now. On my machine. It works as fine as ever, as it did before the update.
With this little post I just wanted to take the wind out of the sails of all the petty minded Archo-phobics who always live in fear of a failed update and that it would wreak havoc with their computers.
Oh, I have another idea. I am stupid but I know how to copypasta into my search engine. Let’s see if some super geek already found a self-help solution …

Ok, now I need to study how to delete the p11-kit-trust.so file and make room for install of the new one. Or sumfink like dat. Oh looksie, here come the rescue team …

Now let’s see if a not-too-clever housewife can do it …

GagaMore up-to-date! Orca happy penguin now. ๐

๐ That is the way it goes with Arch Linux sometimes. On rare occasions, an update or two would require manual intervention (One should not allow that to prevent them from using Arch Linux).

As it so happens, the most failed updates I got from the universally beloved Manjaro, which broke after 3 or 4 updates anyway. Namib was better, but Archman was super duper until today. But, as I showed, it’s super easy to find help, even if you don’t have the slightest clue about what’s going on. Just type error message in search engine and let the internet sort you out. Or, if you lazy, just wait a couple hours/days until one update will finish without error.
I feel in good hands with Arch. =^.^=

Hai Sunny!
Hope you’re well and healthy. We’re doing good, never bored anyway, full fridge, full gas tank, enough TP for some months to come. If you read my corona diary, the Prison: Day 1 – 19 posts, you’re super up to date with what’s going on here. Since the lockdown more than 2 weeks ago, I only had to leave the house twice, so we good. ๐
Wishing you a Hoppy Easter

Just a little warning firstly: Archman ain’t entirely as comfy and lazy as Manjaro or Namib and the forum is pretty much unusable if you don’t parlez Turkiye. And the different flavours are not listed as such but hidden inside the ISO files. Mate is to be found in 2003.03 for example. But installation is via Calamares installer, so super duper easy peasy. But then you’re alone, since it doesn’t give you any bells n whistles. Updates are the Arch way or the highway, so no choice between various kernels, no coward updates, no luxury items. ๐ฎ They say after installation it’s pure vanilla ArchLinux.
I rather like that approach since with less extras there are also less points of breakage and more speedyness. ๐
Too bad that Namib appears to be dead now and Manjaro was never friendly towards the mate user. And for a real Arch installation, the Arch way, I don’t have the nerves, so I’m very hippy hoppy with very stable Archman.
And this is a perfect time to play a bit in uncharted territory, with all the lockdowns and curfews. Or do you have any significantly better things to do? ๐
Happy belated easter, Neil
