Another Look at LMDE 4
Now Rob of Linux Quest YT channel also tested the most Minty Debian:
LMDE: Its goal is to ensure Linux Mint would be able to continue to deliver the same user experience, and how much work would be involved, if Ubuntu was ever to disappear. LMDE is also one of our development targets, to guarantee the software we develop is compatible outside of Ubuntu.
LMDE aims to be as similar as possible to Linux Mint, but without using Ubuntu. The package base is provided by Debian instead.
I don’t know if I ever told you my opinion of LMDE. If I did I’ll just do it again, right nownow: I think it’s a bit of a shame that Clem and his fellow Mint devs don’t love their Debian Edition a bit more and are so slow to release the new editions. I mean Debian 10
is out since already quite some time, and only two days ago Mint finally came out with their own spin. By now all users interested in a friendlier Debian have already found something else – for example Sparky
– are happy and don’t feel a need to give LMDE a chance.
And Clem complains that maintaining LMDE is too m uch of a hassle for the very small user base. So he even stopped adding the Mate desktop to the standard Cinnamon edition. Jeez man, you know that technically LMDE is much better than bog standard Mint and that your user base coud be much bigger if you would put a tad more love into LMDE.
Why wait for Ubuntu’s inevitable implosion and downfall before swapping your whole Mint infrastructure over to Debian? You see who sits big and fat and so smug on #1 in the DistroWatch charts, ya? Mhm, it’s MX. Not half as nice as Mint!
So that spot in the hit parade, and all the donation money, could be yours.
