Shit!

Now look at that.

Look!

Shit!

Ya ya, ok, I know. That desktop wallpaper … please don’t mock me too hard, ladies. At least my computer sports a new wallpaper every couple days, and most of them more exciting than this. Can you say the same about your lame machines? Huh?

See, I thought so. So better shut up now … and look at what’s important, what I really wanted to show y’all. See that little thumbnail open above the panel?

Mhm, appears since last week or so. Actually since Mate was updated to version 1.24 it happens every time when I mouse over one of the opened programs in the panel. And it fukn annoys the hell out of me. Prolly a new trick by the Mate devs … to make our lives more comfy, modern, rich, posh, diamond studded …

Shit!

I fukn hate that shit! Sometimes it hides stuff below it that I really wanted to look at, like texts or so. Not some shitty thumbnail of a software. I’m not a fukn flakey millenial, I know pretty exactly what’s going on with my computer, I’m an adult and responsible person, ffs!

I fukn lurve the Mate desktop environment! Love its simplistic oldfashioned look and feel and its many functions. It’s my absolute favourite desktop that I prefer over all the others. No KDE/Plasma, no Xfce, no Cinnamon, nothing comes even close. But this new “function” doesn’t bring anything new and exciting to the table, it’s just a waste of resources with no enhanced helpful help. It’s just a shiny gimmick and disturbs my workflow. If I wanted my desktop to be all hyperactive, flashy and shiny, gimmicky and geared towards the hateful ADHD crowd I wouldn’t use Mate in the first place now, would I?

I couldn’t find a way to get rid of that shit, so please Mate guys, make it go away!!!

Thank you

xoxo

Oooh, see now what I mean?

shit2

Now that thumbnail made a chunk of my post invisible. 😦

Fuk dat! 😮

Before you ask, yes, it’s the same shit when I place the panel at the top of the screen:

shit3

… I’m developing a migraine from  that shit! 😐

Any of you dear readers more cleverer than I? Yes, probably all of you; but are you better with Mate stuff than your chief editrix? Then fuxn help me!!!

  1. 🙂 What I love most about the MATE desktop environment is that it is highly flexible; it can be styled to look like the traditional GNOME 2 layout as well as many other layouts; such as Cupertino.

You probably know by now that the MATE desktop environment is my favourite out of all of the desktop environments.

I gave the KDE desktop environment a test run lately; I discovered that it is much lighter than its past versions. In spite of it being modern-looking, I will never abandon my beloved MATE for KDE.

Do enjoy the rest of your day, Orca.

    • “look like the traditional GNOME 2”

Which isn’t any wonder since it is basically an upgraded Gnome2, or as Orca once said: Mate is what Gnome3 should have become. 😉

KDE, yes. I know it’s good, probably the bestest Linux desktop. And faster than it has any right to be. But I tested it once, only once, like 10 years ago, and found it to be too much. When my desktop gives me one method to do something I’m happy. When I get to choose between various methods of operating – I’m stressed! KDE was originally cooked up by Germans, no? And in typically German way they went overboard, totally overengineered it and robbed Linux of its soul.

It’s like sportive Audis: Perfect in everything, model students without any character. You won’t get any joy from driving them. Maybe not a good comparison, since BMW and Porsche are also German and I’ve heard they are immense fun. :/

    • Areo panels? Sorry I’m away from Win and Win7 far too long to remember exactly how it looked like.
Fact is the panel(s) of Mate desktop can be modded in many ways. Made wide, made narrow, show all your fave program starters, go invis, go to the top, left, right, bottom. Transparent so the wallpaper will show thru … oldstyle Linux with lots to tinker with. The young devs of today are trying to streamline everything, make it look like a smartphone desktop with only one theme for all users. Fortunately Mate is fighting the trend and makes old people like me happy.

    • LOL Lilie, don’t be sad, don’t be angry pleeez! I downloaded, saved and showing it on my desktop, don’t I? I actually downloaded quite a bunch already. And the dog with the kittens is all kinds of cute, don’t get me wrong. I’m just not an animal person and download animal wallpapers pretty much only when they are graphically strong, and monochrome if possible. Since most blogreaders know that, I feared they might crack jokes about my kitschy gurly mindset. 😮

        • Hoohoo Sammel! You are aware that you need some sort of computer operating system in order to put wallpapers on your desktop, aren’t you? And this particular one wasn’t off the Sparky/Mate desktop but of my personal daily rider Archman/Mate. Doesn’t matter, you ordered moar puppies and kittens and hugs – and Orca delivers … no, actually Angelilie delivers:
