Well, that’s kinda shocker …
Am I totally wrong now or do the DVD and Blu-ray editions usually coming out roughly two months after the cinematic release? I guess that’s the cycle for “normal” films, isn’t it? So we’ve watched Solo: A Star Wars Story end of May in a German theatre only 2 or 3 days before our flight back to SA. So, well, wouldn’t now be the time for Solo coming out on DVD/Blu-ray?
But no! All the digital formats will gradually be released from mid to the end of September. What was Disney/Lucasfilm thinking? If Solo would’ve been a huge hit I can imagine they would ride out the cinematic success up to the last day possible and only then schedule a digital release. But for all we know was Solo a mega flop. Not because it was such a plonker of a movie but mostly because the international fandom had decided that Solo was to suffer for Epi VIII: TLJ’s sins, and called for a boycot. So worldwide all the theatres stayed mostly empty.
And in such a heavy case of self-inflicted economical crisis one should think it’s in Disney’s best interest to release the digital stuff rather sooner than later. No? Anyhoo, we’ve gotta wait until September before we have a chance to watch Solo again and come into the questionable delight of reading an O@tM about it.
It’s gotta be said, Solo wasn’t a great film, it was mediocre at best. But mediocracy is obviously the best one can expect in these politically correct and cowardish times. And in its mediocracy it was still wayyyy better than Episode VIII: TLJ and didn’t deserve such a bad box office.
Bye Han, bye Chewie and Lando. See ya again in September.
