Shields@Noon in TrYC – February 24th, 2018

None of the regular racers came this week, but we had the return of Phil and Augusto trying his first race, being also novice in Shields. Welcome Augusto.

Phil was the leader when crashed entering Triumphal in 1st race, sorry 😦

  1. Uh oh, only 3 racers, including you. 😮 Of course not every week can be a record breaking one, but have you thought about maybe introducing another boat (I hear the IF is very much loved by the community) or another race format?
I remember I tried ultralong races back in the day. From Triumphal to Queequeg line in Dire Strait. But that didn’t help neither, as even less racers were up to it and most crashed along the way. But it was a good concept, as you could do two races on the same course: First a upwinds battle up to Dire Strait, second a fast downwind rush with spinnaker back to Triumphal. Dunno if the charts are still in the map giver at the line, probably not. And I’ve no idea if the lines can still be synched. It was possible with Hay Ah’s lines, no idea what they are using now.
What I’m trying to say is, give the racers some change of scenery from time to time. Maybe race around Kingpost or something. Make your races like touring, like cruises. That adds an adventure aspect to the same old racing.
Or just keep on doing what you’re doing, coz you’re doing it great. 🙂
