BAY CITY, SL (24th January, 2016) – The mainland community of Bay City welcomes all Second Life® members to their annual “Mole Day” celebration on the 30th of January, 2016. The event will be held in the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel (SLurl).

Initially honored in 2010 by Residents of Bay City, Mole Day is set aside to show appreciation for The Moles and their many contributions to Bay City and the rest of the Second Life™ Grid.

Normally held on the same day as Groundhog Day, this year’s Mole Day will be observed three days early, taking advantage of the weekend. The event will feature a performance by Maximillion Kleen beginning at 11:00 a.m. SLT, following by a DJ set by GoSpeed Racer at noon.

“Moles” are members of The Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW). The LDPW is a program focused on improvements related to the experience of living on, or visiting the Linden Mainland. The LDPW is a team of Resident builders, scriptwriters, and others to create new content on Linden Lab’s behalf and to the benefit of all. These Residents all have Second Life accounts with the last name “Mole.”

Moles build the infrastructure of Second Life: the public roads and railways, items in our coastal waterways and protected lands, and even larger scale projects like the Linden Homes regions, premium content, and experiences, and much more.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest group for Residents of Bay City.

For more information, or to participate in the event, please contact Marianne McCann.

Hmmm, don’t you wish the Sailing Community was as active as the Bay City Alliance? Uh, I don’t mean to say we’re not an active community but we’re fukn inbreeders with no visible or feelable effect on Second Life as a whole. I can wholeheartedly recommending attending the Mole Day festivities to every SL resident, which can’t be said about the many many sailing events.

Catch my drift? What say you? Discuss in comments …

  1. *nods* I’ve completely abandoned the USS/Blake sea sailing “community” over a year ago. And I really don’t miss it at all! Especially all the drama, infighting, bickering, and powerplays. I feel really bad for newcomers wanting to get involved in SL sailing. I’ve known several newbie sailors that quit because of the yacht club snobbery & exclusiveness. (Although not all yacht clubs are like this mind you.) I myself use to lease a place in Santa Cruz from MTW&Nber. I left that behind me ever since Maiti Yenni was representing them & SYC and the distasteful way she was conducting herself in public and in the forums. I now refuse to give any more of my money to the USS to help fund their regime. Besides I felt like I’d never really “owned” that island anyway… In hindsight, I believe the USS has sucked all the life away from the mainland sailing community and is now squarely centered in the USS/Blake Sea ecosystem.

And ya I really wish the tumultuous sailors were more cohesive like the BCA, but you know that’ll never happen. I think the main reason is the Bay City community doesn’t have a vested financial stake like those sycophants in the USS/Blake Sea group/Hollywood estates. Bay City citizens actually care about the city and community for the sake of it. (Although, I’m not saying SL sailors don’t care, I know many that do!!) More importantly Bay City is mainland, owned by LL and it’s citizens who live there, and not some large private estate controlling things. Also there is so much direct collaboration between the Lindens & the BCA. You don’t see that anywhere else and especially don’t see that in the Blake Sea. It’s rare I ever find a Linden/Mole there. That speaks volumes to me.

I would like to see more of you in Bay City Orca! I do recall catching you at the newly reopened Lollercoaster in Hairy Hippo Fun Land awhile back. Come to the Mole Day event, it’ll be fun and you’ll see a bunch of Moles! *^_^*

    • Thx Prissy, in all fairness we gotta admit we wouldn’t have a Blake Sea at all if MTW and co. wouldn’t have been fighting for it so hard after the Open Space Scandal of ’08 that forced many USS owners to leave their lands and SL as a whole. Not so Mark, he fought and smooth talked LL into giving him the Blake as compensation. Of course he couldn’t resist keeping on doing what he ever did but this time he made his impact felt in mainland sailing and was kinda taking over the LL relations from the mainland clubs. It’s due to the relentless abrasive work of USS affiliated people that nowadays the greater LL residency thinks SL Sailing = Blake Sea. Of course that’s wrong but don’t dare saying it out loud, else get banned from forums n shit.

But hey, what tumultous sailors? I always made it clear that neither Tasha, Liv and others @TYC nor Orca, Lucy, Charlz and Trap @ TrYC had any interest in being tumultous or acting as replacement terrorists or disturbing the peace. We’re just yacht clubs doing our things. BUT when any USS Blake Sea entity or group tries to interfere with our business we’re becoming vigilant.

And, yeah, now that my PC is running smooth again and my sabbatical seems to reach its end I’ll slowly trickle into SL again I will have to attend more events. Gotta visit BC, the art exhibitions at Snug Harbor and Holly Kay and and and. And gotta find a new time for a weekly sailing event and … oh my …

      • TYC is one of the few yacht clubs I still like and Tasha & Ahab are good friends. Don’t have much experience with TrYC, so I don’t know… I am rather concerned and surprised why some notables are now banned from Tradewinds. i.e. – Rene Underby, Jethro Sands, & Patrick Leavitt. wtf? o_O I’ve always considered TYC pretty neutral.

  2. Oh trust me, TrYC is the bestest club on the grid … or at least it was when I was at the helm. 🙂 But now I’m back and I don’t intent seeing it go down. What you’re saying about TYC is distressing. Rene and Jet are just builders and Patrick is USS but one of the good guys basically. He’s hardly ever in world and sold all his sims to Mark and Nber anyway to pay for Fanci’s medical bills, afaik. Dunno why TYC should ban them. Oh, but neutral they were never. Ever since the totally unjustified bitch hunt on Tasha she’s got a brooding vengeance against USS.

TrYC was founded much later and we always tried to just stay independent and don’t mingle with USS clubs too much. But we’ve always been friendly with NYC and FIYC (eventhough they started the war on Tasha). Heck, me and Maiti even started a collaboration until she turned like 180% and became the total bitch we know her to be right now.

  3. BTW, TrYC just ROCKS….no infighting just good clean fun, excellent sailing/races
It fell into a decline after Charlz and Fee quit SL, Trap took up the reins, and after a slow rebuild, that also ROCKS,
It will soon be what it was….ROCKING..
Long live the old Marlins, and Id love to see some new Marlins…
